Uncommitted Spotlight: Jared Neel

Our second uncommitted senior spotlight of the day is Staley’s Jared Neel, a physical right-handed pitcher that’s ranked No. 89 overall in the state’s 2021 class.

Neel attended a Michigan Preseason Preview back in February of this year, where he touched 85 mph with his fastball - the fourth highest digit of that event. Neel threw his curveball in the 65-68 mph range and mixed in a straight changeup, working in the 76-77 mph range.

Neel is a big bodied and physical 6-foot-2, 215-pound, right-handed hitting outfield prospect and right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 class. He ran a 7.69 second 60 and a 5.09 home-to-first. During hitting evaluations, Neel starts in a relaxed stance, in line stride, lightning quick hands, minimal head movement, showed pull pop during round, exit velocity of 87 mph. Defensively in the outfield, works behind the baseball, clean transfers, momentum towards target, long arm action with a high three-quarter release, positional velo of 81 mph, mostly accurate throws. On the mound, slower and deliberate delivery, controlled leg lift, accelerates down the mound, quick arm, high three-quarter release, downhill tilt. Fastball jumps out of his hand, 78-82 mph, occasional arm side run, curveball is 65-68 mph, gradual action, 10-to-4 shape, changeup is 76-77 mph.

 

 

12/17/17 - Neel is a strong 6-foot-2 205-pound right-handed hitting outfielder  and right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 5.14 home to first and has an 81 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, reverse toe tap, short to contact, quick hands, gap to gap contact.  In the outfield, 77 mph positional velocity, over the top release, fluid footwork on time with fluid exchange, plays through the ball. On the mound, Neel has a short arm circle and over the top release, creates in line direction down the mound, throws with some effort, high three quarters release, fastball at 74-76 mph, breaking ball has 11-to-5 action, gradual break with sweeping action, 62-64 mph, change up at 63-65 mph.
