Arkansas Insider: Goodheart commits to San Jac

2017 OF/MIF Matt Goodheart committed to San Jacinto College Monday, afternoon. Goodheart is the No. 8 player in the 2017 Arkansas Rankings. He impressed in the spring for Magnolia HS, as he lead them offensively from the leadoff spot and on the mound as he anchored the pitching staff. Magnolia made an improbable run to the 5A State Championship, with Goodheart being the key contributor. He again found himself apart of a winner in the summer as he played with the Texarkana Razorbacks who, won the Arkansas state championship and the American World Series. Goodheart hit leadoff for this group sparking their offense consistently all summer.
His performance during the high school season earned him an invite to the Top Prospects Games at Arvest Ball Park. He performed well, his full evaluation is listed below. This fall he played with Sticks Baseball in our fall prospect league. Over the four weeks, I gained more of an appreciation for Goodheart’s consistent approach and offensive abilities. He was an offensive force, leading his team to an undefeated record and winning the league MVP.
Matt Goodheart OF/INF, Magnolia HS
Goodheart is a 6-foot-1 180-pound infielder with an athletic frame and build. An advanced offensive player as a left-handed hitter. He starts with a balanced stance, with a smooth load, he attacks the baseball with a line drive swing and fast bat speed. He stays balanced throughout his swing and has an advanced feel for the barrel. Defensively he plays through the baseball with solid footwork. His actions have some stiffness to them, he has a quick exchange and an accurate arm. He runs a 6.60 in the 60. Overall Goodheart is an elite athlete with an advanced offensive game.
