Coach Mike Napoleon began his prep coaching career in 1985 at Niles Notre Dame, coaching there for a total of five years before heading to Providence for a four-year stint. Since 1997, Coach Napoleon has been at the helm of the New Trier Trevians, and has since become one of the most successful coaches in Illinois High School Baseball history, amassing a total of 965 wins and setting him atop the IHSA career win leaderboard.

On April 27th of last spring, New Trier defeated Glenbrook North 5-0 to give Coach Napoleon his record leading 951st win, which broke Dave Swisegood’s record of 950 wins - a longtime coach at both Plymouth and Augusta Southeastern in a career beginning in 1956.

Since becoming the head baseball coach of New Trier, Coach Napoleon has won two state titles; the first coming in 2000 and the second in 2009. He also led the Trevians to two runner-up finishes in 1989 and 2007, as well as a fourth-place finish in 2017, and has won 20 Regional Championships over that span as well.

According to our database, which began in 2012, New Trier has had 25 Division 1 commits and a total of 57 college commits, including former White Sox outfielder, Charlie Tilson. While we only have an official database starting in 2012, it’s easy to assume that the number of players that have gone on to play at the collegiate level since Coach Napoleon took over in 1997 includes many more than our information provides.

With Coach Napoleon at the helm, New Trier has been one of the most dominant schools in the Chicagoland area and the entire state of Illinois.
