It's hard to believe but the start of the 2019 Maryland high school baseball season is almost here. Every week throughout the season we will release our Power 25, ranking the top twenty-five teams from across the Old Line State. Today we continue our Preseason Power 25 countdown by taking a look at our #18 team, the Colonel Richardson Colonels from Caroline County. Be sure to stay tuned as we release one team each weekday leading up to the release of our 2019 #1 Preseason Power 25 team on March 19th. Then, on March 20th our PBR Maryland staff will release our final preseason predictions for the upcoming 2019 season.

Season Snapshot

11th year head coach Dave Mangum and Colonel Richardson enter 2019 looking to avenge last season's 4-3 loss to eventual State Finalist Saint Michaels in the MPSSAA 1A East Regional Championship. The 2018 Bayside Conference North Division Champions return several key pieces from last year's team but do lose both Garrett Nepert (North Carolina Central) and Jacob Zebron (Baltimore Orioles - 18th Round).

The Colonels boast one of the top one-two punches on the mound this year with seniors Jamison Covey (5-1 W-L, 1.24 ERA, 57 SO) and Remy Mangum (7-1 W-L, .036 ERA, 57 SO) back to anchor the staff. Juniors Nate Brown and Jake Towers also figure to fill some of the innings left behind in Zebron's absence. On offense the Colonel Richardson return six senior starters and one junior. Mangum and junior Jackie Zebron lead all returners with their .362 and .345 respective batting averages from a year ago. Ryan Stanton (.319), Ty Scott (.311), Covey (.310), Tyler Stanley (.304), and Nathan Roth (.250) round out the returners on offense for the Colonels 2019. Expect to see Brown, Towers, senior Mason Knotts, and juniors Gunner Johansen and Mason Lambert to also find roles in the lineup and make an impact over the course of the season.

With a lot of experience and solid core group of juniors and seniors, Colonel Richardson looks poised to make another run at the Bayside Conference Championship and MPSSAA 1A State Championship in 2019.
