It's hard to believe but the start of the 2019 Maryland high school baseball season is almost here. Every week throughout the season we will release our Power 25, ranking the top twenty-five teams from across the Old Line State. Today we begin releasing our Preseason Power 25 by taking a look at our #25 team, the Old Mill Patriots from Anne Arundel County. Be sure to stay tuned as we release one team each weekday leading up to the release of our 2019 #1 Preseason Power 25 team on March 19th. Then, on March 20th our PBR Maryland staff will release our final preseason predictions for the upcoming 2019 season.

Season Snapshot

Old Mill enters the 2019 season with what figures to be a strong, senior heavy squad. 3rd year head coach Charlie Chaffin returns nearly his entire lineup from last season's team that finished 4th place in Anne Arundel County and fell in the MPSSAA playoffs to Severna Park for the second time in three years. Altogether, seven players that figure to be on this year's team have already committed to play baseball in college: Ian Adams (Washington College), Nick Cinquanto (St. Thomas Aquinas College), Spencer Haines (Dominican College), Hunter McKean (CCBC Catonsville), Hunter Parish (University of the Sciences), Gage Utz (Stevenson University), and Xander Waddell (University of Maryland - Eastern Shore). Among them, Adams, Cinquanto, and Parish garnered All-Anne Arundel County honors last season.

Senior RHP Kyle Summers will join Haines, McKean, and Utz as the leaders of this year's staff after going 5-0 with a 2.82 ERA for the Patriots in 2018, while senior Markus Thompson and junior Caleb Bailey also figure to find roles in this year's lineup. Adams (3.64 AVG, 26 SB), Cinquanto (.419 AVG), McKean (.320 AVG, 3-0 W-L, 2.87 ERA), Parish (.344 AVG), and Waddell (.446 OBP) look to build upon their impressive junior campaigns and so the stage is set. What will this special group of seniors be remembered for? Can they slay the perennial Anne Arundel powers of Arudnel and Severna Park for a County and or 4A East Section Championship? Only time will tell.
