WHAT TO WATCH FOR:
Expectations for Team - With the middle of the diamond returning including impact stick Trey Spees Western Carolina Commit expectations are high this year. Carson Dahle gives you true 1 on the mound who can match up with anyone.
From the Coach, Expected Team Strength:
I believe we are going to be solid defensively. Return our middle with Trey Spees and Matthew Phuntek, Evan Matile will return to CF. Dylan Scott will move from 1st base and take over the catching duties. Adding some athleticism on the corners moving Carson Dahle to 1B from the OF then have some young guys will battle it out for 3B and the corner OF position but we feel like all the guys battling it out are very good athletes. On the mound Carson Dahle will be our guy and have some young and upcoming arms in Barrett Erwin, Ty Davis, Braden Kendall, Evan Matile and Drew Wayne that will get plenty of innings. Matile, Davis and Erwin saw little time on the mound last year but have had a great offseason and look forward to watching them compete.
THOUGHTS ON THE CONFERENCE:
Very good conference that at one point last year had 5 teams in the top 10 of the 3A west in RPI. St. Stephens is coming off of a great year, North Lincoln is absolutely loaded with talent in the field and on the mound. Hickory has one of the best coaches in the state along with a great group of players. North Iredell lost their coach but their baseball program took a huge step last year with a lot of young players and I am sure they are ready to get after it, and Foard returns hands down two of the best players in the league in Jenkins and Tramel. The biggest program I saw turn around last year was West Iredell, young coach over there has done an unbelievable job resurrecting that program and I see them giving a lot of teams fits this year.I firmly believe the majority of the games you lose are by self inflicted mistakes, very rarely and don't get me wrong it happens but does a team just walk out and whip you. To compete in this league we will have to make routine plays, throw strikes and minimize our strikeouts. If we do that I feel like we will be in more games than not
