The 2024 Texas high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Texas.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Austin at the UIL State Tournament in June, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Texas. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 30 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

TEAM OUTLOOK

After making a deep playoff run last year, the Weatherford Kangaroos bring back another very talented team in 2024. Led by Coach Jason Lee, pitching and defense will be the staple of the 2024 Kangaroos’ squad despite losing RHP Kannon Kemp (2023) in the MLB Draft last year to the San Diego Padres.

In 2024, the Kangaroos’ pitching staff will be headlined by Texas Tech signee RHP Will Jordan (2024). Jordan, who was a Second Team All-State and First Team All-District player last season, is currently ranked No. 118 in the state. Alongside him in the rotation will be Amarillo College signee RHP Roy Moon (2024), who was First Team All-District in 2023 as well. Recent North Central Texas commit RHP Tanner Seglem (2024) will round out the senior pitching staff and should play a large role for the Kangaroos in 2024.

Returning elsewhere on the diamond for Weatherford in 2024 is Grayson College signee, OF JT Cienega (2024), who was a Second Team All-District player in 2023. Cienega is currently ranked No. 206 in the state, and projects as the team’s opening day centerfielder. Another senior position player returning is uncommitted CIF Joel Gonzales, who was Second Team All-District a season ago.

The Kangaroos bring back a talented junior duo for 2024 with both players factoring as two-way players in INF/RHP Colton McClure (uncommitted) and INF/RHP Rhys Vindiola (uncommitted). McClure was a Second Team All-District recipient in 2023, with Vindiola earning Honorable Mention.

Weatherford will have a couple new faces impacting the team this season in junior INF/RHP Bryce Smith (uncommitted) and sophomore C Jett Vindiola. Also, keep an eye on freshman RHP/CIF Cutter Kennedy as he begins his high school career this spring as a potential varsity impact player in the coming years.

Despite what they lost from the 2023 team, this 2024 Weatherford team looks to have reloaded for another exciting season. Look for Coach Lee’s squad to make a strong 6A playoff run yet again this season.
