LAKE ELSINORE, CALIF. Players gathered at Temescal Canyon High School on Jan. 6 for the Underclass SoCal Preseason All-State. They were put through a traditional pro workout with running, jumping, fielding, and hitting portions. Following the workout, players participated in a scout-ball-style game with pitchers facing five batters each.

Data collected by TrackMan has become significantly important for high school, Juco, and 4-year players. College programs have evolved beyond radar velocity readings, looking deeper into a pitcher's ability to spin and move the ball. In addition to velocity, TrackMan provides pitchers with valuable data points such as spin rate, spin direction, horizontal movement, vertical movement, and more. Ultimately providing feedback to college coaches, MLB scouts, and the players themselves; to enhance training and also to identify prospects of interest above and beyond simple velocity readings.

At PBR California showcases and events, amateur players now have access to the same technology shared by professionals and are able to see how their pitching arsenal compares with those across the state and the country. The TrackMan Arsenal Analysis will highlight those metrics and explain the benefits behind the numbers.

Max Curveball Velocity

Like many things in baseball, the faster the better. A fast off-speed pitch while maintaining traditional movement patterns makes the pitch harder to hit. The measured velocity for this metric is right as the pitch leaves the hand.

Rank Name State School Class Pos Velocity (max)
1 Gary Morse CA ORANGE LUTHERAN HIGH SCHOOL 2026 OF 80.3 mph
2 Evan Alexander CA Brentwood School 2026 RHP 72.4 mph
3 Landon Hovermale CA Norco 2026 LHP 70.0 mph
4 Joseph Flores Jr. CA Arlington 2027 SS 68.2 mph
5 Nyte Teeter CA Tustin 2026 C 68.0 mph
6 Kai'nalu Van Scoyoc CA Palos Verdes High 2026 SS 67.0 mph
7 Shohei Kimura CA n/a 2025 3B 66.0 mph
8 Kaito Takahashi CA n/a 2025 RHP 66.0 mph
9 Ryosei Kawamura CA n/a 2029 SS 60.4 mph
10 Takumi Nioka CA n/a 2026 SS 59.3 mph

Max Curveball Spin Rate

The spin rate for a curveball tends to be the highest among all the pitches in a pitcher's arsenal. A higher spin rate, measured in rpms, on a curveball generally means more downward movement when combined with the top spin of the pitch.

Rank Name State School Class Pos Spin Rate (max)
1 Joseph Flores Jr. CA Arlington 2027 SS 2411 rpm
2 Nyte Teeter CA Tustin 2026 C 2271 rpm
3 Kai'nalu Van Scoyoc CA Palos Verdes High 2026 SS 2249 rpm
