Season Outlook
The 2016 Perryville HS team returns the majority of their team from 2015 with 11 players having experienced time as a starter. Leading the offensive attack are seniors Clay Bines, Kody Brown, and Silas Stevens. Stevens led the way hitting .383 last season and Brown added a .322 average with five stolen bases and a team leading 18 runs scored.  Bines hit .352 last season while also leading the team in RBI with 13, and doubles with five. Keep an eye on senior OF Jared Brustman (.235BA, 6SB 9RBI), junior SS Zack Strong(.222BA, 8SB, 15R), and sophomore 2B Brady Krahn (.263BA in 11 games) to build off their 2015 campaign offensively with another year under their belt. Team defense will need to be an area of improvement after the Panthers fielded .882 as a team last season.

On the mound, Jared Brustman should anchor the pitching staff after a 4.15 ERA in 30.1 innings while striking out 26. Bines was second on the team with 25.2 innings with 23 strikeouts and looks to improve off his 6.27 ERA. Brown (3.65 ERA, 7.2 IP) and Strong (5.13 ERA, 15 IP) should also provide innings again after being tied for third on the team in appearances with seven. Command of the strike zone will be an area for improvement after 107 walks in 113.1 innings. Keep and eye on 2019 Mike Newsome and 2018 Zach Jerscheid as possible late season call ups from JV to add more depth to the pitching staff. Overall if the Panthers can improve upon their command and defense, it should equal to more wins with an already strong offense returning.
