2024 GHSA Preview: Cherokee Warriors

Hudson Graham
Georgia Scouting Director

The 2024 Georgia high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Georgia.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in mid-May inside one of Coolray Field, AdventHealth Stadium, or JI Clements Stadium at Georgia Southern University. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Georgia. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 25 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week and updating the Power 25 rankings.

Our 2024 preseason coverage continues today.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Warriors are a well coached that are always tough to beat year after year. Experience and team chemistry will play a big role for them in 2024. They have one of the top junior arms in the state in Kennesaw State commit, Reid Worley. He will give them a chance to win against anyone in the state, the fastball was up to 91 just a few days ago with one of the best sliders in the class. Evan Holstein and Jackson Bradfield will supply the power behind junior Collin McGhee. McGhee can make a case for one of the best leadoff guys in the state. He will take his walks, steal bases, and find barrells with few strikeouts. Wesley Hurt is a senior that had to step up last year when Holstein got injured, so he will be a big piece after getting tons of experience last year. Blake Myers, Liam Kirkman and Sammy Ericson will be called on behind Worley on the mound, and should be able to handle anyone in the region. The Warriors took a tough loss in the state playoffs last year against Kennesaw Mountain, but I know coach Thomas has them more motivated than ever to bounce back in 2024.
