The 2024 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Texas

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Austin at the State Tournament, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Texas. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and eventually releasing our preseason Top 30 teams in the state.

Team Outlook:

Coach Ralph Ramon and the Lubbock Monterey Plainsmen made a deep playoff run in 2023 and are poised to make another competitive run in 2024. The Plainsmen return plenty of pitching off of last year’s team and that should be the strength of their squad in 2024 headlined by recent Western Texas College commit, 2024 RHP/UTIL Jackson Jolly. Filling out the rest of the pitching staff will be 2024 RHP/INF Ja’Marcus Smith (Uncommitted), 2024 UTIL/RHP Anthony Johnston (Uncommitted), 2024 RHP/UTIL Hector Villegas (Uncommitted), and 2024 OF/RHP Brody Cantu (Uncommitted). Seniors Carter Bovkoon INF (Uncommitted), Will Collier C (Uncommitted), and Adam Loera UTIL (Uncommitted) will also play a big role on defense and in the lineup for the Plainsmen in 2024. Some underclassmen to keep an eye on for Lubbock Monterey will be a pair of 2026 infielders in Joaquin Maldonado and RJ Laurent, who will be expected to take on larger roles for the team this season. The Plainsmen will also have three Freshman hopeful to make an impact on the 2024 season in 2027 UTIL’s Jamiah Martinez, Jaivyth Cruz, and Grayson Alamaraz. With their deep pitching staff and versatile defense, the Plainsmen are poised to be a tough out again this season in the 5A playoffs.
