Prep Baseball Report's IA Fall Review event took place on Sunday, October 16, 2016. The event was held indoors at Sports Iowa located in Ames, Iowa. The event featured 2017-2020 prospects from Iowa and Kansas who showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff. pitching Prospects

Theo Arndt, 2B/RHP, Charles City, 2018
5-foot-10, 145-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.43 runner. Narrow stance, strides to square with balance, quiet head, easy load, consistent solid contact, mid/away approach with ground ball and line drive contact, 77 mph exit velocity. Active feet, stops to field, long release on throws, sinking action to bag, accurate arm, 70 mph arm strength across infield. On mound, controlled delivery, swings front leg down mound landing open, short arm action from OT slot, with extension to plate. Fastball was 70-72 mph with varying cut and sink for strikes. Curveball has 11/5 shape with early break to plate. Changeup works on a downhill plane with avg. fade.

Jack Brimacombe, SS/RHP, Blue Valley North (KS), 2018
6-foot, 160-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.4 runner. Tall athletic stance, leg kick trigger, stays through zone well, consistent hard line drive contact to both gaps, with flashes of pop in bat, 90 mph exit velocity. Light on his feet, late glove presentation occasionally fielding deep in stance, solid glove with clean exchanges, long release on throws with clean arm action, 83 mph arm strength across infield. On mound, good tempo and rhythm, shows athleticism and body control, has extension to plate, and arm works clean out front. Fastball was 81-84 mph with solid life and running action to plate. Breaking ball was inconsistent with sideways spin and wobbly shape. Shows feel for changeup with solid fade.

Brandon Cable, LHP/OF, Ames, 2018
6-foot, 160-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. Short tuck and turn into balance point, short draw on back-side with pie arm action, lands hard on stiff front leg, with avg. extension to plate. Fastball was 71-73 mph, touching 75 mph, with varying cut and run with solid command of plate. Sweeping break on curveball with 2/8 shape and depth. Late action on changeup; but will need to improve command of pitch. 6.96 runner. Simple square stance, pre-set hands with slight rhythm, consistently squared baseball, flashes pop in bat, mid/pull approach producing hard line drives, 82 mph exit velocity. Raw actions in outfield, quick release, stiff arm action, sinking throws to target, 70 mph arm strength from outfield.

William Hawks, SS/RHP, Des Moines Roosevelt, 2018
5-foot-10, 160-pound switch-hitting 2-way player. 7.44 runner. Quality setup from both sides of plate, body load, transfers weight well through swing, quiet head producing consistent solid contact, gap to gap approach, loose hands and repeats line drive swing, 86 mph exit velocity. Solid athleticism and actions in field, soft glove, is active and plays through ball, short clean arm action with quick release, 77 mph arm strength. Controlled delivery with good direction to plate, stays closed on front side, and clean repeatable arm action. Fastball was 76-78 mph, showing occasional run, for quality strikes. Repeats breaking ball well with solid 11/5 shape and depth. Changeup has fade with drop action for strikes. Follow in 2018 class.

Kyle Nevitt, LHP, Perry, 2017
6-foot-4, 220-pound left-handed pitcher. #105 ranked player in IA 2017 class. Strong wide shouldered build. Simple delivery, uncontrolled lower half, has direction to plate, short draw on back-side, with clean arm action out front. Fastball comes out of hand cleanly with flashes of life and running action. Fastball was 83-86 mph for strikes to arm-side of plate. 1/7 breaking ball showed above average depth and sharp break at 70-71 mph. Developing changeup with firm velocity and lacked fade at the end. Physically impressive, better days ahead of him, with solid athleticism. Nevitt will make a climb back up 2017 rankings.

Elijah Townsend, RHP, Cedar Falls, 2018
5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed pitcher. Tuck and turn delivery, long draw behind body in arm circle, short balance point, high ¾ slinger arm slot to plate, with solid life on fastball when on top at release. Above avg. cut action on fastball at 78-80 mph for strikes. 11/5 breaking ball has solid shape and depth. Shows command of firm changeup with running action to plate.

Devon Van Houten, LHP, Saydel, 2017
6-foot-1, 185-pound left-handed pitcher. Short rocker step into slight tuck and turn delivery. Short draw on back-side and releases ball out front from OT slot. Has direction to plate and lands open on front foot. Fastball was 75-78 mph, on downhill plane, with slight running action for strikes. 1/7 breaking ball has solid shape and avg. depth for strikes. Heavy action on changeup with avg. fade left short of plate.

Landon Vander Leest, RHP/3B, Pella, 2018
6-foot-2, 192-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Strong physical build. Simple rhythm through delivery, slight collapse at balance point, with direction to plate. Clean arm action out front with slight wrap on back-side of arm circle. Showed good command of fastball consistently throwing 84-85 mph. Curveball has tight spin and 11/5 shape with solid command of zone. Changeup is firm; but works bottom of zone well showing and taking away from hitter. 7.01 runner. Square stance with front heel turn trigger, low hand set, works up and through at contact, quick hands to baseball, loud line drive contact working both gaps, 80 mph exit velocity. Easy third base actions, soft glove, above avg. carry and accuracy to bag, solid defender, 80 mph arm strength across infield.
