Committed Combine: Primary Catcher Breakdown

On July, 22 committed players from all corners of the Commonwealth took part in our Committed combine. We conclude our detailed breakdown of those players today with the catchers:

Dylan Hatfield C / 3B / William Byrd, VA / 2021

Hatfield is a Virginia Tech commit and is 6-2 with an athletic frame that has some strength present and some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, strides on line, short smooth load back. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short and quick to the ball, uphill swing path, showed a pull preference with some natural loft in his swing, some strength at contact, exit velocity was 92. Behind the plate, quick clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, quick arm, position velocity was 82 and pop times 1.91-1.99. Showed some accuracy on his throwdowns. Ran a 7.09 60 yard dash.

 

 

Cannon Peebles C / RHP / Hanover, VA / 2022

Peebles is an Old Dominion commit and is 5-11 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He is a switch hitter, from the right side, hits from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, low leg kick stride on line, short smooth load down to a slight wrap. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short and quick to the ball, slightly uphill swing path, showed a pull preference with some strength at contact. From the left side, hits from a balanced athletic stance, low leg kick stride on line, short smooth load down to a slight wrap. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short and quick to the ball, uphill swing path, showed a good approach using whole field with strength at contact. Best exit velocity was 94. Behind the plate, quick clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, lightning quick arm, position velocity was 84 and pop times 1.86-1.97. Showed some accuracy on his throwdowns. Ran a 7.26 60 yard dash.

 

 

Bennett Shealor C / OF / Blacksburg, VA / 2022

Shealor is a George Mason commit and is 6-2 with an athletic frame that has some strength present and some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, low leg kick stride on line, short load back to a slight wrap. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Hands stay inside, quick to the ball, slightly uphill swing path, some whip in his bat, showed ability to use the whole field with a pull preference, strength at contact with extension through the ball, exit velocity was 92. Behind the plate, quick clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 77 and pop times 1.94-2.10. Showed some accuracy on his throwdowns. Showed versatility taking balls in the outfield where his velocity was 78. Ran a 7.08 60 yard dash.
