Prep Baseball Texas Staff

The 2024 Texas high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Texas.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Austin at the UIL State Tournament in June, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Texas. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 30 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week and updating the Power 30 rankings.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Creekview Mustangs bring back a more experienced squad in 2024 after a rebuilding year last season. Led by Coach Blake Koch, look for the strength of this Mustangs team to be their defense entering the spring.

There are some intriguing pieces returning from the Mustangs’ junior class in 2024, most notably RHP/INF Michael Ledesma (uncommitted) and C/RHP Jake Moreno (uncommitted). Ledesma was a First Team All-District player last season, with Moreno earning Second Team in 2023. These two will lead a talented junior class that returns four additional players who played on varsity last season in INF Cameron Landberg (uncommitted), RHP/CIF Ismael Valles (uncommitted), LHP/OF Michael Verdecia (uncommitted), and CIF/C Clint Carson (uncommitted). Joining the junior class on varsity this spring will be RHP/OF Emiliano Romero (uncommitted). Representing the senior class in 2024 will be a pair of uncommitted players in OF Vincent Pinkston and OF/1B Harris Holloway.

A pair of underclassmen to follow in 2024 are sophomore LHP/OF Ben Miller and freshman RHP/UTL Mark Rojas. Miller is back after playing varsity in 2023 as a freshman, and Rojas is projected to see time as a two-way player on varsity to begin his high school career.

With their returning experience and defense, look for the Mustangs to try and get back into 5A postseason contention in 2024.
