Fayetteville Clinches 5A West Title

By: Zac Bottoms
Arkansas Scouting Director

Fayetteville High School clinched the 7A West Conference Championship with a 10-0 victory over Van Buren.

The Purple Dogs received a strong pitching performance from 2018 RHP Miller Pleimann. Pleimann pitched 5 innings allowing just one hit, struck out 5 and walked 4. His ability to locate three pitches for a strike was a key factor to his success. His fastball worked 86-88 mph with slight sink, his curveball was 72-75 with 11/5 shape and early action. His changeup was thrown 76-78 mph thrown with fastball arm speed. Overall Pleimann showed a quick, arm with a projectable frame. He is a prospect with his name on the rise, as he projects and pitch ability.

Offensively, Fayetteville’s offense was very opportunistic converting Van Buren’s 6 errors and 3 walks into 10 runs. The Purple Dog’s had 6 hits, with 2017 CIF Barrett Bannister, 2017 MIF/RHP Hayes Cox leading the way with 2 hits apiece, Cox was 2 for 3 on the night with 2 triples, 2 runs scored and an RBI.

These two clubs will clash again this afternoon, as Fayetteville will travel to Van Buren for the final 7A West contest of the season. Van Buren is still alive for a first round bye in the state tournament with a win today, and some help with Har-Ber or Bentonville picking up a loss.
