Lukas Scarlett's HR and 5 RBI Leads Evansville North To Victory



Evansville, IN – Conference foes Evansville North and Evansville Harrison faced off on Tuesday night. North jumped out to an early lead, scoring four runs in the top of the first. Ryan Dills (2013) got the inning going reaching on an error and Curran Davis (2013) walked. Alexander McCune (2012) laid down a sacrifice bunt setting up second and third for cleanup hitter Lukas Scarlett. Scarlett drove a fastball about 380 feet to left center for a three run homerun. The hitting didn’t let up as Devin Williams (2013) lined a ball to right that got passed the diving right fielder for a triple. Williams would come around to score after a ground ball from Issac Gilkey (2012).

Harrison would battle back into the game in the bottom of the 2nd. Will Clippinger (2013) led off the inning with a single, but would be out at second on a fielder’s choice from Kyle Otolski (2013). With one out the designated hitter singled to put runners on first and second. After a pop out, starting pitcher Dills looked to be escaping without any damage, but Logan Barnett (2013) doubled to left center bringing home Otolski. Leadoff hitter Zach Deutsch (2012) followed that up with a line drive to left field scoring two more runs cutting the deficit to 4-3 after two innings. In the third Harrison tied up the game after Brian Grant (2012) singled to right and Will Coy (2012) doubled to the right center field wall scoring Grant from first.

Devin Williams came in to relieve North starter Ryan Dills in the fourth inning. Williams threw the last four innings allowing just two hits and striking out five, sitting 79-82. Dills had to come out of the game with an oblique injury.

In the fifth with the game tied, North broke the game open. With two outs and a runner on base Gilkey walked, ending the day for Harrison starter Austen Henson (2012). North took advantage of the relief pitcher, DH Logan Elpers (2012) got the two out hitting started with a single to center that brought home one run. Reed Rounder (2013) then doubled over the centerfielder’s head to bring home Gilkey and Elpers. Leadoff hitter Dills drove a pitch over the left field wall for a two run homerun, giving North a 9-5 lead.

North would tack on two more runs in the 6th and the 7th. In the 6th Devin Williams singled and Drew Greenhaw (2012) walked to start the inning. After an out and a double steal, Elpers hit a ball that just stayed inside the third base line bringing home Williams and Greenhaw. In the 7th with two outs Curran Davis (2013) got hit by a pitch and McCune lined a single to center. Scarlett was able to do damage again this time hitting a triple to the right centerfield wall bringing home Davis and McCune.
