Class of 2027 - Initial Rankings

Cooper Trinkle
Lead Scout

It is always exciting to debut the initial rankings for players heading into their freshmen season. Over the course of the past two seasons, we have seen some impressive talent in the 2027 class emerge, a class that we project to be very strong as a whole. With that being said, twenty five prospects have stood out amongst their peers, with several high-end talents at the top that should be known on a national level.

Certainly this list will grow and change over time, as we know many players will grow and develop at different speeds. Without further ado - read along to learn about the up-and-coming talent that the Hoosier State has to offer in the 2027 class.

Head of the Class

Parker Robinson SS / Lake Central , IN / 2027

Leading the way, Robinson debuts as the top ranked prospect in the class with a ceiling that remains uncapped. His uber-projectable, 6-foot-3, 180 pound frame looks the part of a premier shortstop prospect and he is equipped with plenty of athleticism that provides five-tool upside. There is present bat speed as Robinson whips the barrel through the hitting zone with little effort. His defensive actions standout as he moves with fluidity and grace, and the arm works with the same effortless whip as the bat.

Drake McClurg OF / SS / Center Grove, IN / 2027

A dynamic athlete, McClurg checks in at #2 in the initial class rankings. A true switch-hitter that will stick in the middle of the diamond, the 5-foot-11, 160 pounder is the best overall athlete in the class to date, apparent as a three-sport standout at Center Grove. Already committed to play college baseball at Indiana - McClurg shows premier foot speed & body control, creating an impressive offensive profile with his ability to generate bat speed in a tight window from both sides of the dish.

Jaylen Wells-Henderson RHP / OF / New Albany , IN / 2027

A prospect with traits to suggest his game will continue to elevate, Wells-Henderson possesses a strong mix of "right now" tools and traits to dream on. Wiry and athletic with some lean strength throughout, the 6-foot-3, 165 pound two-way standout casually sits in the mid-80s on his low-effort fastball currently. There is obvious arm talent & athleticism that Wells-Henderson carries to the mound, making it easy to project his fastball to reach 90 mph sooner-rather-than-later. Along with standout abilities on the hill, Wells-Henderson shows two-way prowess as an athletic outfielder with an advanced run tool for the class (6.83 60) and easy juice from the right-side of the batter's box.

Gavin Markus RHP / Greenfield-Central High School, IN / 2027

A two-time Junior Future Gamer for Team Indiana - Markus appears "next in-line" to carry on Indiana's tradition of producing arm talent. The high-waisted, 6-foot-1, 156 pounder oozes athleticism within the delivery and shows clean, quick arm action that produces a mid-80s fastball currently, a number that will sky-rocket as he adds strength to his projectable frame. A strike-thrower, Markus also own one of the top breaking balls in the class, a low-70s offering with slurvey shape that shows flashes of a future-plus pitch.

Grady Nelson 1B / Warsaw Community, IN / 2027

Carrying a heavy barrel into the left-handed batter's box, Nelson rounds out the Top 5 in our initial list. As a 14 year old, Nelson produced a 98 mph exit velocity at the Junior Future Games in 2023, by far the top exit velocity in the class at this point. Aside from the obvious raw power and bat speed that he currently possesses, there is feel to hit within his game and the strong left-handed hitter shows adjustability in his swing that allows him to do damage to all parts of the field. The 6-foot-3, 220 pound first baseman turns the barrel with authority, and already showcases an innate ability to lift the baseball.

Carter Lowe RHP / Zionsville, IN / 2027

Another two-time Junior Future Gamer with all-kinds of upside on the mound, Carter Lowe ranks as the #6 overall prospect in our initial rankings. Already possessing one of the cleanest arm actions in the class, Lowe holds the best fastball velocity of any Indiana 2027 we have seen thus far, touching 87 mph during the summer of 2023. An athletic mover that stands at 6-foot-1, 150 pounds - Lowe flashes command of a three-pitch mix that compliments a strong fastball.

Crewe Hasenour SS / C / Gibson Southern, IN / 2027

At No. 7, Hasenour is built with compact strength in a solid, 5-foot-9, 175 pound frame. Hasenour has been identified as one of the top hitters in the class with innate feel to hit, to go along with some of the best bat speed we have seen to date for this class. There is strength in the lower half that allows the back hip to ignite the swing, allowing an electric barrel to whip through the hitting zone. A primary infielder with present arm strength, Hasenour shows fundamental actions on the dirt and offers defensive versatility as a backstop with catch-and-throw abilities. Carrying himself with a quiet confidence and mature approach, look for Crewe's in-game abilities to continue to speak for themselves.

Liam Delp SS / CF / Mooresville , IN / 2027

A consensus favorite amongst our staff, Delp offers dynamic capabilties in everything that he does on the diamond, checking in at #8. A true middle of the diamond athlete that plays both shortstop and centerfield at an advanced clip, Delp offers foot quickness that is second-to-none in terms of Indiana 2027s, bouncing around the diamond with swagger. An undersized, 5-foot-8, 145 pound athlete with all-kinds of twitch - Delp profiles as a tablesetter at the dish with game-changing feet.

Brayden Ring SS / 2B / Zionsville Community High School, IN / 2027

Crisp and polished on the dirt with a real chance to stick at shortstop, Ring has been identified as one of the top defensive shortstops in the class at this point. Debuting at No. 9 in the initial rankings, the 6-foot, 150 pounder offers feel to hit with a fluid, right-handed swing that will only become more impactful as he matures into more strength.

Gunner Wade LHP / Franklin , IN / 2027

Rounding out the Top 10, Wade shows polish on the mound to go along with a starter's profile. A projectable, athletic, 6-foot-1, 160 pound frame that is still maturing, the southpaw attacks hitters with complete command of a three-pitch mix. Offering a natural ability to spin the baseball, creating carry on a fastball (18 - 24" IVB) that routinely gets above barrels, Wade currently tops at 80 mph, a number we project to sky-rocket as he matures into more arm speed. Wade shows tons of feel for a faded, low-70s change and keeps hitters off balance with a big, 1/7 shaped curveball.

More Names-to-Know

Arm Talent

Our initial list contains four right-handed arms that are ranked between No. 11 and No. 24. These arms have stood out amongst their peers with a combination of "right now" stuff and long-term projectability. RHP Mason Gomez (Franklin Community) leads this group, appearing one spot outside the top 10 in our initial rankings, and holds some of the highest upside of any '27 arm that we have identified thus far. An uber-projectable, 6-foot-4, 165 pounder that looks the part of a future-power arm, Gomez is an athletic mover that attacks hitters from a high, over-the-top slot with a fastball that we've had up to 83 mph. While Gomez holds power potential, he is able to command the strike zone with a three-pitch mix, highlighted by a low-70s breaking ball that flashes sharp bite. RHP Cole Cheatham (Union County) appears at #13, another '27 arm with power stuff. A solid, 6-foot, 180 pounder - Cheatham attacks from a 3/4 arm slot with a fastball that already reaches into the mid-80s, while his low-70s slider with sweep is a quality offering, as well.

Mason Gomez

RHP Brady Keck (Fort Wayne Snider) showcased a power sinker/slider combo for Team Indiana at the Junior Future Games in 2023. The arm works with quickness to a 3/4 release point to produce a mid-80s fastball with sink, and the 6-foot-1, 165 pounder compliments the fastball with a tight, low-70s slider. RHP Lincoln Gregg (Terre Haute North) rounds out this group with traits to suggest his best stuff is still in the tank. A high-waisted, 6-foot-1, 155 pounder - Gregg consistently lived in the strike zone across multiple looks in 2023 and his low-effort fastball works into the low-80s with carry from an over-the-top arm slot. The fastball has significant room for growth and is paired with a sharp, 11/5 shaped breaking ball with depth that he shows tons of feel for.

Brady Keck

A pair of southpaws with quality showings at the Junior Future Games debut in the initial Top 25 in LHP Gavin Jenkins (Eastern Hancock) and LHP Davis Moore (Zionsville). Jenkins, a strike-throwing left-hander, shows a quick, clean arm that works from a 3/4 slot to produce a low-80s fastball, a pitch that he can command to both sides of the dish. The slot allows his fastball to work with arm-side run and his low-70s slider tunnels well off of the fastball. Moore owns a lanky frame that is still maturing, but his high-waisted, projectable frame is far from a finished product. A confident southpaw that is unwavering in the big moment - Moore can locate the fastball to all quadrants of the zone & boasts the top left-handed breaking ball we've seen in the class thus far.

Davis Moore

Position Players

A strong group of position players find themselves in the No. 12 - No. 23 range in this initial update. UTL Mason Meyer (Mt. Vernon) headlines this group and checks in at #12. An undersized athlete with above average foot speed and compact strength, Meyer boasts some of the best bat-to-ball skills that we have identified within this class, evident at this year's Junior Future Games. This swing is simple and repeatable, allowing Meyer to consistely whip the barrel through the hitting zone with fast hands. The Mt. Vernon product offers all-kinds of versatility, a swiss-army knife that can play virtually every position on the diamond.

Mason Meyer

Another '27 bat that our staff is excited to follow is OF Lincoln Hoffman (Westfield). Owning a 5-foot-10, 185 pound frame that is full of compact strength, Hoffman stands out with his ability to impact the game in the left-handed batter's box. Hoffman sequences properly to boast a mechanically sound left-handed stroke, and his strength allows for present gap-to-gap strength. An advanced runner for the class with a chance to stick in CF long-term, Hoffman appears at #14 in this initial list.

Lincoln Hoffman

A pair of long-levered right-handed bats appear back-to-back in 3B Camden Moore (Zionsville) and OF Jackson Sorgi (Tri-West). Moore, a 6-foot-2, 165 pound corner infielder, offers innate feel to hit with a sound approach and a natural ability to lift the baseball. Moore creates easy leverage that allows for power projections when combined with his above average bat speed. Sorgi, a multi-sport standout with projectable athleticism within a 6-foot-1, 170 pound frame, offers tons of traits to dream on with above average athleticism and a smooth right-handed stroke. A standout QB on the gridiron, Sorgi's arm is a future tool and his game will continue to elevate as he matures into more physical strength.

Camden Moore

A pair of Fort Wayne natives appear at #21 & #22 in SS Isaiah Snavely (Fort Wayne Snider) and OF Asher Wagoner (Fort Wayne Carroll). Snavely boasts one of the better hit tools in the group with one of the cleanest swings in the class, creating effortless barrel whip through the hitting zone. Snavely profiles as a left-handed hitting shortstop, a very valuable profile, and his ability to impact the baseball will only continue to improve as he adds mass to his athletic, 5-foot-10, 155 pound frame. Wagoner, built like a running back with compact strength in his 5-foot-10, 185 pound frame, offers an above average run tool with explosive bat speed from the right-side of the dish.

Isaiah Snavely

Strong Backstops

Though Indiana has not traditionally been known for producing high-level catchers, we have identified 3 backstops that appear in the Top 25, a feat that has not occurred within our rankings since the class of 2013. This crop of backstops is particularly advanced, starting with the top ranked catcher, Cooper Collins (Vincennes Lincoln). Collins is undoubtedly the best defensive catcher for his age in Indiana at this time. A stocky, 5-foot-10, 165 pound workhorse - Collins changes the game with advanced catch-and-throw abilities, along with the ability to steal strikes with confident hands. Offensively, Collins' barrel works uphill through the zone and shows promising barrel accuracy.

Cooper Collins

Two more promising young catchers appear in the Top 25 in Luke Brown (Evansville Memorial) and Jackson Harris (Carmel). Brown shined at the Razorbacks Scout Day, stealing the show despite being one of the youngest players at the event. A 6-foot-3, 155 pounder with loads of room to add strength to his projectable frame - Brown shows twitchy hand speed at the dish and should grow into significant power. His best tool at the moment is his arm strength, reaching 77 mph from the crouch, and it also translates to the bump where the projectable arm casually reaches into the low-80s on his fastball. Harris was a big-winner from our Underclass Games in the summer of 2023, like Brown, standing out as one of the younger players in attendance. There is a lot to like within Harris' game - a left-handed hitting catcher with a smooth, uphill stroke that holds power potential, reaching near-90 mph exit velocities before entering high school. A well-built, 6-foot, 165 pounder, Harris shows above average abilities on the defensive side of the ball.
