PBR Spotlight Game: #19 Youngstown Cardinal Mooney vs Youngstown Ursuline

YOUNGSTOWN — It was a pitcher’s duel at Bob Cene Park as Joel Hake (Youngstown Ursuline, 2015) took the hill for Youngstown Ursuline against Andrew Armstrong of Youngstown Cardinal Mooney. The Cardinals win in walk-off fashion 2-1.

Mooney got on the board first.

After two straight errors put Cardinal runners on 1st and 2nd, an RBI groundout by Bryce Richey scored the first run of the game for the Cardinals.

Vito Petrillo led off the 6th inning for Ursuline with a walk. A base hit by Hake followed by a groundout and a wild pitch scored Petrillo to tie the game at 1-1.

Hake left after seven innings, allowing only four hits while striking out nine and issuing one walk. Hake gave way to Vinny Lucente (Youngstown Ursuline, 2016) in the 8th inning.

After a strikeout of Aaron Woodberry, the ball got away, allowing Woodberry to reach first.

Woodberry was then hit with a line drive off the bat of Mike Williams on his way to second.

A sacrifice bunt then advanced Williams to second base. Freshman Brennen Olesh hit a low fastball into center field, allowing Williams to score from second, giving Cardinal Mooney the 2-1 walk-off win over rival Youngstown Ursuline in a classic finish.

The standout performance of the day by far was the pitching of Cardinal Mooney junior Andrew Armstrong. Armstrong threw nine innings, allowing only five hits, striking out five in a complete game win. Vinny Lucente took the loss, tossing 1.2 innings, giving up two hits while striking out two batters.
