Q & A with Bradley Commit Carson Weber

By Steve Nielsen

Carson Weber is a two-way player from Watertown HS. Weber is a well-built athlete at 6-foot-3, 185-pounds. The left-handed hitter has a good arm on the mound along with running a 6.8 in the 60. The multi-talented Weber will bring a unique set of skills to the Bradley Braves in 2014. As for right now, Weber is focused on leading Watertown to a conference title and making the most of his senior year.

PBR: Who is the best player you have faced in your state, and why?
Weber: Tony Brandner from Hartford.  In the games we played against him, he hit the ball well and we couldn’t run on him at all.  He was a great catcher and a great hitter.

PBR: What is your No.1 personal goal for the 2013 season?
Weber: Wisconsin Little Ten Conference Player of the Year

PBR: What are some team goals that you have for 2013?
Weber: Win the Little Ten Conference title.  Get to the state tournament, and then win.

PBR: What are you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?
Weber: A coaching staff that wants me and has a plan for me in their program; as well as great athletic facilities and a good academic support for athletes.

PBR: What is your best attribute as a baseball player and how does that transfer onto the field for your team?
Weber: I feel my best attribute is being a team player.  I will help my team in whatever way necessary to achieve team success.  Whether that is throwing an inning or two, or dropping down a bunt to get people over. If it will help us win, I’ll do it.

PBR: What do you feel is the biggest adjustment you need to make in taking your game to the next level?
Weber: I think the biggest adjustment will be the speed of the game.  At the next level everyone will be bigger, faster, and stronger than in high school.  I am working very hard to increase my strength, speed and agility to prepare for that.

PBR: What do you like about the college you have committed to and why did you choose them?
Weber: I chose Bradley because I felt wanted by the coaches. Bradley has awesome athletic facilities that will give me the opportunity to reach my potential on the field.  I liked the size of the campus and the academic reputation.  They also play against great competition in the Missouri Valley Conference, and that challenge appealed to me too.

PBR: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?
Weber: Do something every day to make yourself better.  Weightlifting, long toss, drills, tee work, etc.  Also, play against the best competition you can.  If you want to play at the next level, it helps to play against guys that will be playing there.

PBR: What do you do in the offseason to keep yourself in baseball shape and prepare for the upcoming season?
Weber: I work with a performance coach at NX Level Athletics, attend off-season workouts for my travel team (the GRB Rays), work with my hitting coach Max Cordio and my pitching coach Greg Reinhard, and start a throwing program in January so my arm is in shape when the season starts.

PBR: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?
Weber: My first high school varsity hit as a sophomore.  In the first game of the year, I hit a double down the line at Hartford, against their ace.
