PBR Spotlight game: No. 4 Ashland vs. No. 21 Westlake



CLEVELAND- Westlake pulls off a thrilling comeback, scoring six in the top of the seventh to shock No. 4 Ashland 10-7. The win sends Westlake and head coach Jeff Short, who will retire after the season , to its first Final Four in school history.

Down 6-0 the Demons found themselves behind for the second straight game. Westlake clawed back scoring two in the fifth. Jonathan Brick led the inning off with a triple, later scoring on an RBI single by Matt Leonard. Andrew Dunn scored Leonard with an RBI double.

No. 21 Westlake cuts the deficit to 6-4 after it scored two in the sixth. Spencer Offredo had a two-run single to left.

The Demons finished their incredible comeback with six runs in the seventh. Northern Kentucky recruit Aric Harris started the inning off by hitting Corey Bowers on the first pitch. Ashland head coach Rob Lavengood in favor of Zach Bernhard.

Harris went six plus innings allowing four runs on six hits and three walks, while striking out six.

After inducing a flyout Bernhard allowed two infield singles before allowing a two-run single to tie the game at 6-6. Leonard walked later in the inning to put the Demons up 7-6. Offredo came up with the big blow, with a bases clearing double down the left field line to put Westlake on top 10-6.

Ashland was able to score one in the seventh, Jake Allton scored on a bases loaded wild pitch, but the Arrows fell short. Ashland stranded eight runners, while Westlake stranded seven.

Ashland got on top in scoring four in the first. Steven Mowry, Derek Ward, Zach Benhard anf Brock Landrum each had an RBI.

The Arrows tacked on two in the third. Bernhard had an RBI, while Harris drew an RBI walk to put Ashland on top 6-0.

Danny Strodbeck picked up the win going 3 1/3 innings allowing three hits in relief.

Westlake (23-6) will face Massillon Perry (21-10) Thursday at 4 p.m.

Ashland finished its season with a 23-5 record.
