PBR Spotlight Game: Ottawa Knights 16u vs Ontario Outlaws 16u

GUELPH- If you enjoy a pitchers duel, Saturday morning was a brilliant matchup between Ottawa Knights RHP Corben Peters and Ontario Outlaws LHP Connor Humphry. The Outlaws squeezed out a 1-0 victory at Larry Pearson Park.

Peters brought his A-game and an electric arm. His fastball had life out the hand and topped out at 81 mph. His curveball showed sharp break and mixed in a good changeup to keep the Outlaw hitters off-balance. He finished with a complete game and struck out 11. Three out of the four hits Peters allowed were not hit very hard as he induced weak contact all game. At the plate, he went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.

The Outlaws Humphry was just as good as his counterpart. He finished with a complete game shutout, scattering six hits and striking out six. He spotted the ball well on both sides of the plate with his fastball and showed a good curveball that induced six groundball outs and five infield pop ups. Only two Knights reached in scoring position and Humphry managed to strand both runners in the fifth and sixth.

In the Outlaws half of the fourth, INF Robert Lindsay looped a two-out single up the middle, advanced to second on a passed ball, and scored on INF MacKenzie Storey RBI single to leftfield that ended up being the game-winning and only run scored.

Game 2 of the doubleheader was postponed due to rain.
