Team North Carolina 14U: Game 3 Recap

The 2023 Junior Future Games are underway at LakePoint in Emerson, GA featuring some of the top 2027 prospects from across the country. Team Carolina kicked off their Junior Future Games with a workout on Tuesday. The workout day consisted of a full pro-style workout with players taking BP on the field with Trackman capturing ball flight data, a defensive workout, and players running a laser timed 60. Team Carolina will take on Texas, Kentucky, and MoKan in their pool play action with bracket play to follow. 

Team North Carolina - 6 Team MoKan - 9

Team North Carolina took on Team MoKan on Friday evening in Game 3 of pool play. The bats for North Carolina were hot early, scoring 4 runs in the top of the 1st with Connor Bast driving in 2 runs and Caeb Renn and Brody Morris driving in 1 run each. Along with the quality at bats North Carolina got a strong start on the mound from Tanner Williams. North Carolina would add 2 more runs later on a base hit from Gio Tafalla. In the end North Carolina would not be able to hold on to its early lead and fall to MoKan. North Carolina will be back in action in bracket play on Saturday.

Tanner Williams, LHP/OF, 2027

Athletic build at 6-foot-1, 170-pounds. Attacked the strike zone with his fastball working mostly in the 78-81 mph range. Fastball has some run to the arm side, consistently located it to the bottom of the strike zone while flashing feel for both sides of the plate. Has feel for his changeup at 70-72 mph, throws it with confidence and maintains fastball arm speed. Breaking ball has depth at 68-72 mph. Athletic on the mound with a smooth temp to the delivery and clean arm action. Has feel for all three pitches with poise and confidence on the mound. 

Brody Morris, IF, 2027

5-foot-11, 160-pound frame with room for maturation ahead. Doubled to right and barreled another ball through the middle of the field. Balanced setup, simple load, takes a short path to the ball with quickness to his hands. Showed feel for the barrel and the ability to use the whole field. Aggressive on the base paths. Solid actions on the infield. 

Caleb Renn, OF, 2027

5-foot-10, 155-pound frame with room for maturation ahead. Left hand hitter. Loose, fluid swing with his barrel working flat through the zone. Stays balanced, hands have quickness, showed feel for the barrel with a gap to gap approach. Squared a ball up to left center for a RBI single and barreled another ball to right. Shows comfort in the outfield and tracked down a ball going back in to the left center gap. 

Connor Bast, 1B, 2027

6-foot-1, 245-pound frame.Continues to stand out at the plate. Smoked a triple to the right center gap and squared two more balls up to center. Bat speed and strength stand out. Doesn’t give at bats away and adjust with 2-strikes. Barrel stays through the zone.
