Game Recap: Roman Catholic at Archbishop Wood

Archbishop Wood 6, Roman Catholic 0

In a huge game to help determine Philadelphia Catholic League supremacy, the defending champion Vikings knocked off the upstart Cahillites with a workmanlike effort, setting up a battle for first place with Father Judge this afternoon. Wood and Judge are now 9-1 in the PCL, while Roman sits at 8-2.

Bobby HeckWood kicked off the scoring in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI single from senior left-handed pitcher Ryan Logan. They then put the hammer down with four runs in their next trip to the plate on consecutive two-out, run-scoring singles by senior designated hitter Matt Schwartz, Gwynedd Mercy-bound outfielder Bobby Heck (right), and Logan. The final tally came home on a sixth inning infield single from freshman third baseman Sam Reynolds. On the game, eight of nine starters for Wood reached base at least once.

US Merchant Marine Academy-bound Logan walked at least one batter in four of his six innings, but pitched out of trouble each and every time with a little help from a defense that turned double plays in the third and sixth frames. Junior right-handed pitcher Kody Cracknell came on to close out the game in the seventh.
