Prep Baseball Report

Uncommitted Spotlight: RHP Tyler Kennedy

Phil Kerber
Georgia Scouting Director

Our goal at Prep Baseball Report is to promote high school players, and give them the exposure they need to be able to play at the next level. With the 2020 high school season in limbo, we want to continue to be able to promote players, even when baseball is not being played. Starting today, we will be spotlighting several uncommitted prospects to help them get the exposure they need to play at the next level.

Our friends at PBR South Carolina were the first ones to get a look at RHP Tyler Kennedy (Georgia Premier Academy, 2021) last summer when he attended two events, the Uncommitted Senior Games and the NC/SC Border Battle. Kennedy was impressive at the events, especially the Border Battle, where he posted one of the top fastballs at 88 mph. We, at PBR Georgia, got our first look this spring when Georgia Premier took on P27 Academy (SC) on an extremely chilly and wet day LakePoint Sports where temperatures dipped into the low 30s. Despite this, Kennedy appeared unfazed and maintained great composure on the mound for six innings, striking out 10 while scattering four hits and one run. A large 6-foot-4, 230-pounds with advanced strength in his lower half, Kennedy worked up to 87 mph on the night. Leading us to believe that there is a lot more in the tank.

Scouting Report

2/20/20 - 6-foot-4, 230-pound right-handed pitcher, big, strong frame, advanced strength in lower half. Arm works with some length on the back-side, showing the ball briefly, to a high ¾ slot, quick arm speed. Drop and drive delivery, gets into his strong lower half, works on-line, finishes crossing over. Fastball sat 84-86, touched 87, gets on top and downhill with, can be overpowering at-times. Curveball, 11/5 shape, 69-71, has depth, flashed depth and bite, can get around it sometimes resulting in less life. In a six inning start against P27 struck out 10 batters, scattered four hits, allowed one run, walked two.
