On the Recruiting Trail: '16 RHP Ethan Dyer (Worchester Academy)

By Dennis Healy
PBR MA Director of Scouting

Ethan Dyer, RHP, Worchester Academy, 2016

PBR: How was your summer and what are you doing this fall?

Dyer: The summer season was great. I put on significant velocity, played for my travel team Show Baseball Academy with a group of great guys, and I felt like I really developed as a player. This fall I pitched in the Showcase League and threw at a handful of camps. I'm not throwing right now, but I'll be starting back up in November. I'm lifting four days a week and getting my running in. I play corner outfield for my high school's fall team.

PBR: Who has helped your baseball career along so far?

Dyer: My summer team's head coach, Steve Lomasney, has helped my career along the most. He talks to coaches for me, gives me recruiting advice, and is the most knowledgeable baseball guy I know.

PBR: Who is recruiting you and how is the process going?

Dyer: I've been recruited by more than a dozen Division 2 and Division 3 schools in the past year, and it's a great feeling, but I've started to talk to more competitive schools and I'm excited for that to continue this winter and next year. Right now it's Rhode Island, BC, Bryant, and Holy Cross.

PBR: What are you looking to improve upon as you approach college?

Dyer:  Short term I'm working on polishing my mechanics and secondary pitches, but also making sure I put on as much velocity as possible this off season. I was 84-86 this summer and if I can get to 87-89 by the end of next year, I'd be satisfied. Ideally I'll be sitting 90 when I graduate high school. I'm also keeping my GPA up and will be taking the ACT/retaking the SAT soon.

PBR: Who do you enjoy watching pitch in the MLB?

Dyer: Stephen Strasburg. Definition of a horse and that's the kind of guy I model my game after.
