Inside the Overall Rankings: Texas 2021

PBR Texas

TEXAS - The Texas 2021 class continues to dominate the prep national landscape with over 50 prospects in the latest installment of the 2021 Overall Rankings. The usual suspects SS Jordan Lawlar (Vanderbilt Recruit) and 3B Izaac Pacheco (Texas A&M Recuit) headline the Top 10. In the updated rankings there are several prospects that made size-able jumps and several newcomers who have really burst onto the scene this spring.

RISERS

Hudson White C / SS / Byron Nelson, TX / 2021

White made a jump in the Overall Rankings, jumping ten spots to No. 55. At 5-foot-11, 175-pounds, White is a long stride runner with a lean-muscular frame, and posted a 7.25 60-yard dash. The right-handed hitter then launched balls deep to the gaps, including a home run to left field. He loads back early before striding forward, staying in a slightly crouched position, getting the barrel in the zone and working on an upward plane through contact, creating lift and leverage with a top exit velocity of 90 mph. On the infield, White plays low with rhythm in his footwork, soft hands out front, and a clean exchange into an elbow dominant arm stroke that works from different angles and transitions to multiple positions. Behind the plate, he threw 79 mph from the crouch and posted pop times ranging from 1.86-2.01. On the mound, the right-hander works from a high-¾ slot with a clean arm stroke, drop-and-drive delivery, and lands across his body. His fastball ranged from 82-86 with feel to both sides of the plate, and he mixed in a 71-72 mph curveball with 11/5 shape and good depth. Whether he is on the mound, behind the plate, or on the infield, White’s natural baseball actions and athleticism make him a coveted recruit in the 2021 class.

Ty Hodge SS / OF / A&M Consolidated, TX / 2021

Ty Hodge jumped 12 spots in the Overall Rankings  to No. 46 after a very impressive performance at the Super 60.

"Rangy, athletic frame with present strength and room to add. Hits from a balanced setup with a knee-to-knee load, using a strong lower half to generate big pull side power out a fairly flat path with high-end bat speed. Average defender with developing actions and enough arm strength. High level athlete with big tools - may take a little time but the tools will come together at some point." - Walt Jones

“The only 2021 in attendance and would be surprised if he is back again next year as one of the top athletes in the class. Twitchy runner with a ton of all around athleticism. Moved well defensively and has a huge ceiling.” - Doug Freeman

Tyler Lee 3B / RHP / Hallsville, TX / 2021

Lee checks in at No. 44 in the Overall Rankings jumping eight spots.

Devin Bennett RHP / Benbrook, TX / 2021

Bennett one of the biggest risers in the class climbing 18 spots checking in at No. 74 in the latest installment of the Overall Rankings.

NEWCOMERS

Ryan Prager LHP / Hillcrest, TX / 2021

Prager makes his rankings debut cracking the Top 100 checking in at No. 76, after a very impressive performance earlier this spring.

Uncommitted 2021 LHP Ryan Prager out of Hillcrest. At 6-foot-4 has a wiry athletic frame. Works from a over-the-top arm slot. Tilted FB with occasional cut. Competes in the zone. Has feel for CH. North/south CB that will continue to improve. High ceiling arm.

FB: 88-90 T91
CB: 73-75
CH: 78-80

Eric Hammond RHP / 1B / Keller, TX / 2021

Sawyer Robertson OF / Lubbock Coronado, TX / 2021

Joins the Overall Rankings at No. 308 after a strong performance in front of National Crosschecker Shooter Hunter earlier this spring.

"Robertson, an uncommitted outfielder who is also one of the state’s premier quarterback recruits, stands out on the diamond for his highly-projectable, 6-foot-4, 205-pound frame that has plenty of room to tack on significant strength. Long and loose, Robertson’s approach is a bit raw at the plate with very minor separation of the hands as they seem to work the barrel to the ball directly from the ear on a level plane. Having said that, his ability to produce stood out as he notched two ground ball singles before I headed to another game, and added a home run in my absence. Although the swing is less athletic than anticipated given the frame and gridiron accolades, there is clearly some upside, and whichever program that he chooses to play quarterback in, the baseball staff will likely want to give him some time to develop." -Shooter Hunt

Teo Banks OF / RHP / Permian, TX / 2021

Banks checks in at No. 351 in the Overall Rankings and is certainly a player that had a lot of buzz around him going into the spring.

"Tulane Recruit. With an athletic 6-foot-2, 180-pound frame, Banks has a lot to project on. Showed well both on the mound and at the plate all weekend. On the mound, has a long, loose arm path working from a high ¾ arm slot. FB sat 86-89 T90 for majority of the outing, had late arm-side run, making it very uncomfortable for RHH. SL was 77-78 with short late breaking action. At the plate, had a very offensive weekend hitting .705 with 2 HR. Starts from a tall upright stance with a pronounced leg kick, hangs foot, consistently gets it down on time. Swings with controlled aggression with the potential to develop some big-time power. Legit two-way potential. Showed some relatively raw tools this weekend that should be a lot of fun to watch as he continues to refine his game."

BUBBLE GUYS

Tyson Neighbors RHP / OF / Community , TX / 2021

A stout 6-foot, 205-pounds, Neighbors brings a cut-throat aggression to the mound, bearing down on hitters with power pitches and pounding the zone. His fastball, which releases from an over the top slot, worked at 88-90 mph. The command was slightly scattered, but he controlled the pitches around the zone and was highly effective. Neighbors slider was a heavy biting slider at 83 mph that showed considerable depth. Neighbors is also highly academic, sporting a 4.57 GPA in the classroom.

Christian Okerholm RHP / OF / Vandegrift, TX / 2021

Highly athletic body, 6-foot-3, 180-pounds, two-sport athlete (basketball). The righty works in a very linear manner on the mound, short arm action, tight 90-degree angel at top, quick arm through release, can create steep downhill plane, ball seems to jump, lot of cutting action. Fastball worked 83-85 mph. Spins 12/6 breaking ball at 70-71 mph. Changeup is a good offering with fade and sink, clocking 79 mph.
