Prep Baseball Report

2013 Underclass Spotlight: Kevin Rex, Park Tudor HS

PBR: As you enter your junior year in high school, where are you currently in the recruiting process?

Rex:  I've been learning about programs and schools to try and assemble a list of my top choices and best fits.  A few schools have shown good interest in me and will come see me play in the spring/summer, but I am keeping my options open.

PBR: What are your expectations for the recruiting process?

Rex:  I couldn't say exactly what to expect, but hopefully my performance will attract the attention of schools I am interested in.  I think the next 9 months will be both very new and exciting.

PBR: What level of baseball do you see yourself playing at the next level?

Rex:  I see myself ideally playing anywhere from high D3 to mid-major D1 baseball depending on the balance between baseball and academics at any given school.

PBR: What schools are you most interested in right now, and why?

Rex:  Indiana is definitely my favorite.  It's location, huge selection of majors, Kelley school of business, and Wells Scholarship Program make it essentially a perfect fit.  Plus it feels like a hometown school. Northwestern, Davidson, and Harvard are also high on my list because of their great academics reputations.

PBR: What aspect of your game do you believe needs the most improvement?

Rex:  My mental preparation to try and eliminate wasted at-bats, and getting my change-up to have a greater change in speed from my fastball.

PBR: What are your personal goals for the upcoming 2012 season?

Rex:  To execute each play and try to help my team win.

PBR: What are your high school team goals for the upcoming 2012 season?

Rex:  Especially after losing at semi-state last year, our goal is absolutely to try and make another deep run into the post-season and hopefully win a state title.

PBR: What team do you play for in the summer?

Rex:  Indiana Mustangs under head coach Dan Roman.

PBR: What is your fondest memory or highlight from your 2011 baseball season (High School or Summer)?

Rex:  Definitely the team chemistry we had on the high school team.  We had a lot of great senior leadership, but there was no sense of class distinction.  Every day we grew closer as a unit.  Our teammates made hard work fun every day and I think that attitude has carried over to our team this year.

PBR: What were your stats for your 2011 HS season?  Summer Season?

Rex:  I threw 21 innings, gave up 6 hits, 1 ER, 0.33 ERA.  I hit .417, 2 HR, scored 54 runs, around .600 OBP.

PBR: What is your GPA? ACT or SAT score? If you have not taken it do you have a planned date?

Rex:  GPA:  4.333, ACT: 34, Took the SAT on March 10th but will get scores within a couple weeks.

PBR: Have you decided on a major or narrowed it down?

Rex:  Not for sure, but if I had to choose this minute I would choose Business or Economics.
