Throughout Wednesday, July 26-Saturday, July 30, 2023 Prep Baseball Report Future Games were held in Emerson, Georgia at our LakePoint Sports Complex. For this event the various PBR staffs from around the country selected the best uncommitted rising juniors and sophomores to form teams to represent their state or region in the event, bringing well over 450 of the best uncommitted players in the United States and Canada to one four field quad for 4 days.

For this event, players from Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and DC were selected to form Team Mid-Atlantic. Players on Team Mid-Atlantic had a position player showcase workout on Wednesday and then played in three games, one per day, Thursday-Saturday, going 1-1-1 against Team Florida, Team Carolinas, and Team California. Scouts from all 30 MLB teams and well over 350 college coaches were in attendance.

Burton's Analysis

Ren Devereux RHP / 1B / St John's College, VA / 2025

Devereux got the start in the opener versus Florida. The right hander stands at 6-foot-2, 200-pounds and works from a low three-quarter arm slot. There is early hand separation in the delivery and some late intent/violence at times. The fastball worked in the 85-87 range and touched 88 on occasion. Plenty of arm side run on the fastball, with upwards of 21” of run on the pitch. The breaking ball also had its fair share of horizontal movement, getting an average of 15” of break and a max of 21.2” of HM. The low-mid 70’s breaker is the definite out pitch for Devereux, although he does show a split-change that he can kill spin on and land for strikes at an average rate. I have seen Devereux multiple times this year and this was the most scattered I have seen him, as he usually fills the zone up fairly well. I feel like he was incorporating too much intent on his move to the plate and was opening up a bit quick, leaving the arm behind and causing some arm side misses. Earlier in counts he seemed to be much more in line and in sync.
