Plant Silences Bats of Chamberlain to win 3-0

TAMPA—The Plant pitching staff allowed zero runs on only two hits against Chamberlain in each teams’ second pool play game of the Saladino Tournament. 2016 RHP Zane Hadaya started for the Panthers, going 3 2/3 innings with seven strikeouts and one hit allowed. Reliever and 2015 RHP Ben Hiatt went 2 1/3 innings with no runs on one hit and Nick Cerelli (2016 INF/RHP) closed out the game for the Panthers and allowed no runs and struck out one to give Plant the 3-0 win.

Plant jumped on the board in the top of the first when 2018 OF/P Scott Connor led off with a single up the middle and was later driven in by 2015 OF Cooper Dickens who reached on an error. The Panthers did not score again until the fourth when Dickens scored on a bases loaded hit by pitch to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead. After a scoreless bottom half, 2015 OF and Florida signee Kyle Tucker roped a deep one out double to the left-centerfield gap and scored on back-to-back wild pitches.

The three runs were more than enough for the Plant pitchers as Chamberlain did not have a runner reach third and only had two reach second. Chamberlain’s pitcher Chad Reeves (2015 RHP) really pitched a quality game himself as only one of the runs allowed were earned and he only gave up a few hard hit balls.  But even with Plant not clicking offensively, they were able to get the shutout win 3-0.
