The Class of 2019 Showcase: Infield Analysis

By Rob Sidwell
Florida Scouting Director

Gainesville, Fl. – The 2019 showcase was a bit small in numbers but certainly didn’t lack talent. I was impressed with the number of athletic young guys with good infield actions and good hands. They all had good defensive instincts. Here’s a look at the top infielders.

+ IF/OF Matthew Moss, Bucholz HS
5-foot-9, 145 infielder/outfielder with a strong lean athletic partially developed body. Very good infield actions with good hands. Fluid actions with good body control. Light on his feet with a good release. Aggressive routes to ball. Fields through the ball. Has a loose live arm. Short quick swing with a good bat path. Gets good back spin. Has good hitters hands. Can pull hands inside the ball. Line drive swing with aggressive gap to gap type approach. Has bat speed and doubles type power now. Will have more power with physical maturity. Very good very athletic young player. On the mound he had a loose high ¾ arm slot. The fast ball was 70-72 mph. The curve ball a big loopy breaker at 55-57 mph. The change up is a work in progress at 58-59 mph. Ran a 7.38 60. 76 mph outfield velocity and 71 mph infield velocity. 74 mph exit bat speed velocity.

+ SS/RHP Brandon Seekamp, Seminole HS
5-foot-5, 115 pound infielder/pitcher with a loose lean athletic projectable very young body. Loose easy infield actions with softness in his hands. Fields through the ball with good routes. Light on his feet. Good defensive instincts. Short quick stroke at the plate with good hitters hands. Stays inside ball well. Occasionally changes eye level in approach with a deep load and hard landing. Very young body with good skills. Just lacks strength right now. Will become a very good player as he physically matures. On the mound he had a loose live arm at a high ¾ slot. Fast ball was 71-72 mph with tailing action. Curve ball had some slurve break with good rotation at 58-59 mph. The change up had some fade at 59-60 mph and he dropped is arm slot to throw it. Must follow and see how his body develops. A lot of upside. Ran an 8.3 60. 69 mph infield velocity. 72 mph exit bat speed velocity.

+ INF Garrett Danford, Sneads HS
5-foot-6, 130 pound infielder with a loose lean athletic projectable very young body. Very good infield actions with good hands for a young guy. Fields through the ball nicely with good body control. Loose swing with some length. Gap to gap type approach with a good bat path. Line drive swing. Good load and separation with a bit of an arm bar. Stays inside ball well. Bat will definitely improve with physical maturity. Ran a 7.94 60. 65 mph infield velocity. 70 mph exit bat speed velocity.

+ INF/OF Elijah Tate, Bucholz HS
5-foot-3, 140 pound infielder/outfielder with a thick stocky loose body. Good infield and outfield actions with soft hands. Light on his feet with a loose quick release. Lacks range right now. Has a loose bat with a downward bat path. Tries to work down through ball. Line drive type stroke. Stays inside ball well and works the middle of the field. A young loose body with good defensive actions and good hands that lacks strength. He will continue to improve with physical maturity. Ran a 9.5 60. 62 mph outfield velocity. 62 mph infield velocity. 64 mph exit bat speed velocity.
