A four run second inning for the Old Mill Patriots gave them a lead that Chesapeake could not overcome en route to a 6-1 Patriots victory on a windy Wednesday afternoon.

The visiting Patriots would threaten early by loading the bases in the top of the first inning, leaving them stranded as Chesapeake starter Dylan Young would get out the jam. The Cougars would immediately respond in the bottom half with Young helping his own cause with an RBI infield single scoring Joe Seidler to give the cougars a 1-0 lead.

The second inning proved to be a pivotal inning that seemed to set the tone for the rest of the game.

After a leadoff walk and strikeout Caleb Bailey singled to put two on base. Ian Adams would then hit an RBI double to tie the game at one. The next hitter would foul out and be followed by a walk that loaded the bases with two outs. An attempted pickoff at third base turned into an errant throw allowing a run to score and put runners at second and third. An infield error on the next hitter would allow another run to score, giving Old Mill a 3-1 lead. The Patriots would add another run to extend their lead to 4-1.

Chesapeake responded quickly in the bottom half of the inning, loading the bases after four hitters with one out. Back to back fly outs would end the inning with nothing across. The Cougars again would get runners at second and third with one out after Young doubled to left field. Jake Hynson would reach base on a fielders choice hitting a ground ball to first who immediately threw the ball home. The runner at third stayed put, but the back runner at second went too far to third and Old Mill catcher Hunter Parish would throw a dart to the bag to get the pinch runner out for the second out of the inning. An infield pop out would again end the Cougar threat.

Old Mill would add two runs in the fourth to extend their lead to 6-1 which would eventually be the final.

Nick Cinquanto led the Patriots, going 2-for-4. Adams went 1-for-2 with an RBI and two walks. Kyle Summers got the win, going 3.1 innings, scattering seven hits, one run, a strikeout and two walks. Spencer Haines would pitch 3.2 innings of 1-hit ball in relief with four strikeouts and two walks.

Young led the Chesapeake offense going 2-for-4 with an RBI. He took the loss on the mound, going 4.0 innings, giving up six  hits, 6 runs (0 earned). Tommy Lewis went three innings of one hit relief with five strikeouts.
