The SMAC championship game lived up to its billing as any game between the league regular season champ and runner up should. The La Plata Warriors and Leonardtown Raiders both came to the stage ready to play. Sophomore Ryan Calvert started for La Plata on the mound and faced off with Leonardtown sophomore Ethan Ledig. In this years rendition, it was the La Plata coming out on top

In the first inning nerves were on display for both teams, in the top half of the inning Tyler Taitano led off with a single, Nick Burch hit a sharp one hopper to third base that was thrown wildly across the diamond for an error. The Raiders were set up with runners on first and third with zero outs. Calvert would induce a ground out to second base for the force out at second. He then struck out the Raiders four and five hitters to end the inning.

In the bottom half of the inning St. Mary's (MD) recruit Dean Kirby singled, Peytyn Gray grounded to short in what appeared to be a double play but the return throw from second base was misplayed at first base for an error. Ledig than caught Gray leaning too far off of first but overthrew first base, Gray would advance all the way to third on the throw. Calvert would help himself out by driving in the first run of the game with a single. Leonardtown battled through the first by getting a strike out throw out double play. After a wild first inning it was Warriors one and Raiders zero.

After the first two Raiders reached against Calvert, he retired the next nine hitters he faced. Calvert completed three innings allowing one hit and striking out five. Kirby would take over on the mound in the fourth for La Plata. With one out Matt Bobrowski singled and stole second. Kirby induced a ground ball that was misplayed and allowed Bobrosky to tie the game at one.

With the score knotted up at one through four innings, La Plata would finally take the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. After a one out walk, Joey Binns would single to left field and move to second after a failed attempt to throw the runnner out at third. Kirby came up next and provided the go-ahead RBI with a single up the middle. Ledwig would hold the Warriors after that.

In the sixth, La Plata struck again adding a run from an rbi single from Jerrod Schmitz.

Kirby would finish with a stat line of: 4IP, 2H, 1R, and 7K. Not to be outdone Ledig went complete game 6 IP, 2 ER and 7 K.
