Recruiting news from around the state

Wright State landed a pair of ranked prospects when it received commitments from St. Charles North INF John Brodner and Richmond-Burton LHP Evan Trapino.

The 6-foot-1, 186-pound Brodner, who’s currently ranked No. 37 in the state, has an advanced hitting approach. Brodner led the North Stars in most offensive categories, including 9 homers, 10 doubles, 45 RBI, 30 runs while batting .434. Defensively, he has impressive arm strength: he was clocked at 88 mph at a PBR event last February.

Relatively unknown heading into the spring, the 5-foot-11, 170-pound Trapino opened plenty of eyes during the season by posting a 9-2 record and a 1.81 ERA for the Rockets. The left-hander has feel for four pitches, including a big curveball and low-to-mid-80s fastball. In 73.2 innings pitched, he racked up an amazing 114 strikeouts and 40 walks.

Josh Galvan, a switch-hitting catcher from Walther Lutheran HS, has committed to Kaskaskia JC. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound Galvan batted .371 with 37 RBI and 5 homers to help Walther Lutheran to a surprising runner-up finish in Class 2A.

Dan Dwyer, a 6-foot, 180-pound OF from Brimfield HS, has committed to play at Illinois State.  A left handed-hitter, Dwyer batted .494 with 4 home runs as the team’s leadoff man. Dwyer, who has a strong arm, also went 7-1 on the mound.
