PBR: Why did you choose the school you did?

Gustafson: I chose Gustavus because of how engaging the coaches are when talking about Baseball as well as life after college and also the current players and buzz around campus helped me decide Gustavus was the perfect fit for me.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Gustafson: I was also considering: Luther, St. Thomas, St. John’s, Augustana and Grand View

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with him?

Gustafson: I was pitching in a high school game against Chanhassen and Coach Meyers was there to see an opposing player. I pitched what probably was my best outing all season and they reached out a few weeks later. Over multiple phone calls and a few different visits I immediately grew close to the coaching staff and players.

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?

Gustafson: I would say I’m relieved, it’s a long process and its a nice feeling knowing now that each and every workout is helping give me the best chance to make an impact when I step on to the field for the first time.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?

Gustafson: The biggest factor for me was Coach Bakers connections in the business world, he connects with people very easily and after my 4 years at Gustavus I know he will do all he can for me whether that be help finding a job or just checking in to make sure I’m doing well.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?

Gustafson: My parents have been above and beyond supportive, whether they drove me to a game or ran out in the 3rd inning to buy waters that I forgot. They have been a blessing, also The coaches at Tartan an at Northstar have helped me compete at a high level. Also my teammates on both of those teams have always been great guys to surround myself with and joke with. I can’t thank those guys enough.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?

Gustafson: Going into the process I had no idea what to expect, I was like most other guys who were dead set on trying to catch the eye of a big D1 program. At the end of the day as I became comfortable with my skill level and identified what my best fit would be both academically and on the field, the process became very easy.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?

Gustafson: As a Pitcher and Outfielder I will spend the fall getting a good amount of innings on the bump and a good handful of at bats. When the season rolls around I will roll with whatever position will get me on the field to contribute faster.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?

Gustafson: My favorite moment was last year when I threw a no-hitter against our rivals North St. Paul at home. It’s one of those things you will never forget.
