Name: Evan Menendez
High School (Year): Christian Brothers Academy
Position(s): LHP
Commitment: -

Background

The Battle on the Border event held at Marist College was the first time that the Prep Baseball Report staff got eyes on Evan Menendez. The 5-foot-9, 160 pound left-handed pitcher left a great first impression as he posted two scoreless innings against a quality team representing New York. He gave up only one hit while striking out five of New York’s best.

Scouting Report

Small in stature, full of confidence and composure. Menendez is athletic and possesses plus pitchability. He pitches with tempo and rhythm, compact mechanics, and minimal effort. He has a good feel for who he is as a pitcher and does a solid job of mixing his fastball-curveball combination in order to keep hitters unbalanced. His arm action is quick and compact; he does a very good job of repeating his ¾ arm slot. His fastball topped out at 81 miles-per-hour with deception. His breaking ball is his bread and butter; has all the makings of being a plus out pitch. It shows late 11/5 shape and is thrown with full arm speed and conviction at 70-74 MPH. He already has a feel for adding and subtracting from the pitch and has an advanced feel for command of it.
