Pittsford Sutherland 5 - Greece Odyssey 0

Junior Alec Vaules struck out eight batters en route to a complete game shutout Thursday at the University of Rochester.  He faced just five over the minimum allowing six hits and one walk.  Vaules pounded the zone the entire game and was aided by terrific defense. His only tense moment came in the second inning. After a leadoff walk, a single, and a wild pitch put runners on second and third with no outs, Vaules executed a pickoff at second base and induced two consecutive ground balls to work out of the jam.

Sutherland shortstop Saggar Menon was the offensive catalyst with a third inning double that resulted in the games first run, which proved to be enough for the Knights. He also drew a fourth inning walk manufacturing a run with his speed with steals of second and home. Saggar was impressive on the defensive side as well, turning in several slick plays at SS.

Jimmy Murray added a two run double to put the Knights up by four in the third.

Junior RHP Mike Ciccarone was equally impressive for Odyssey. Outside of a tough fourth inning, Ciccarone was dominate punching out nine Knights and letting up only three hits in the complete game loss. He was able to pitch down in the zone consistently and keep Sutherland off balance with a terrific arsenal off-speed pitches.

Jeff Wilson,  Nick Legault, and Vince Alongi had two hits each for Odyssey.
