Holiday Hitters - Calgary: Quick Hits

Brady Turner
Alberta Director & BC Operations

This past Thursday, the Prep Baseball Alberta staff hosted it's part in Prep Baseball Canada's Holiday Hitters Series with the Hitters-Only Showcase in Calgary at Diamondawgs Baseball & Softball Facilitiy in Calgary, Alberta. This event featured roughly 12 players from the Calgary area in the 2024 - 2026 classes and allowed our staff an opportunity to get an in-depth look at how players are progressing this winter as players received several extended rounds of BP utilizing our TrackMan and Blast Motion sensors for the complete breakdown and metrics.

Earlier this week we began our post-event coverage with a look at the top statistical performers from the event within our Hitting Data Dive. Today, we will conclude our post-event coverage within this Quick Hits article as PBR Alberta Scouting Director, Brady Turner, breaks down three standouts from the event with scouting notes and video.

HOLIDAY HITTERS SHOWCASE - CALGARY: QUICK HITS

Carson Chan OF / LHP / John G Diefenbaker, AB / 2024

An imposing 6-foot-1, 170-pound frame with an aggressive approach where he maintains balance throughout, Chan showcased his offensive abilities at the Holiday Hitters event. Impressive bat speed and barrel control allowed him to make consistent contact, reaching a peak exit velocity of 90mph. He stays back up the middle, consistently on-a-line. The 2024 season will be intriguing to watch as he develops more at the plate.

Nathan Vennard OF / 3B / St. Joseph , AB / 2026

Vennard is a 6-foot, 162-pound outfield/third-baseman out of St. Joe’s Academy with quick hands and impressive bat-to-ball skills. He had one of the more consistent rounds of the day, elevating balls back up the middle and to his pull-side gap, reaching a peak exit velocity of 89mph. As a 2026, Vennard has already shown maturity at the plate and will be a bat to watch as he continues to develop through the 2024 season.

Aubrey Stender 3B / RHP / Holy Cross Collegiate, AB / 2025

Stender is one of the more physical hitters in Alberta’s 2025 class and showcased that at the Holiday Hitters event. A smooth right-handed swing allows him to hit for power, while maintaining controlled aggression, with exit velocities averaging in the low 90s and peaking at 98.9mph. His swing allows him to elevate easily, primarily staying back up the middle and to his pull-side. Stender will be an intriguing bat to watch this coming season as he continues to develop into a more rounded offensive threat.
