Labarge To Expand College Search

Mac LaBarge 3B / C / Nauset Regional, MA / 2019

NORTH EASTHAM, Ma. - Exposure has been hard to come by for Mac LaBarge, so the Nauset Regional High School senior is broadening his quest to find the right college for academics and baseball.

“I’ve mainly been looking at northeastern Division I schools, but I’ve not been getting answers up here, so I’m expanding my search,” noted the 6-1 215-pound catcher/third baseman. “It’s been musical chairs and I don’t want to get left standing.”

To date, Division I Holy Cross, D-II St. Michael’s and D-III Babson have shown interest in LaBarge, who is now looking south to Florida at Division II schools like Rollins and Flagler.

“I played on the Cape Cod team in the Senior Babe Ruth and not a lot of scouts come to their games,” LaBarge said about this past summer. “I’ve gotten my exposure through PBR events and specific college camps. I need to personalize since I’m not playing on teams that go south.

“The good thing is a lot of coaches, particularly Babson, know the kind of player I am and kind of person I am. The hardest part has been getting coaches to understand the type of person I am. Babson is the rare exception. Leadership is a big part of my game, but other schools are looking at just my measurables where it’s hard to convey my personality.”

A two-year captain in high school in both baseball and football, LaBarge feels he has traits that can benefit a program at the next level.
