Central Virginia Open ID: Infield Analysis

On October 14, Prep Baseball Report Virginia/DC hosted its Central Virginia Open ID at Hanover High School. Here is a look at the infielders that attended:

Central VA Open ID:  Middle Infielders

Jack Dragum, SS, Hanover, 2018 (Virginia)
Hit from a slightly crouched, open stance.  Good balance in stance.  Smooth load back with leg kick stride that gets on line and stays balanced.  Lower half exploded to the ball.  Bat exit velocity of 92 mph.  Aggressive approach to the round.  Sprayed balls to both gaps consistently.  Swing path stays short and level with good extension.  Gap to gap hitter with some pull power.  Smooth, fluid rhythm.  Elite hitter that consistently gets the barrel to the ball with explosiveness.  In the field threw from a quick, loose high ¾ arm slot.  Throws had accuracy and life.  Positional velocity of 85 mph.  Soft hands with, quick feet that played through the ball.  Exchanges were quick and clean.  Good glove presentation with quality actions in the field.



Cayman Richardson, SS, Hanover 2016 (Virginia)
Hit from a slightly open, narrow stance.  Fluid rhythm in hands with smooth load back.  Stride gets on line and gets to center.  Lower half explodes to the ball with good balance.  Explosive bat speed.  Bat exit velocity of 90 mph.  Short swing path that stays through the zone well.  Advanced approach to the round.  Sprayed balls to gaps with pull power.  Elite hitter with electric hands.  In the field threw from a short, slightly stiff high ¾ arm slot.  Accurate arm that has a positional velocity of 84 mph.  Soft hands with athletic, fluid footwork that plays through the ball.  Quick and clean exchanges.  Advanced fielder with great range and feel for his position.


Central VA Open ID:  Corner Infielders

Antonio Balducci, LHP/1B, Hanover, 2017
Hit from a tall, narrow stance with a high leg kick stride that stays on line and balanced.  Smooth load back with slight arm bar.  Good lower half drive, with decent balance.  Bat exit velocity of 79 mph.  Swing path long and works around the ball at times.  Line drive swing.  Threw from a quick, loose high ¾ arm slot with accuracy.  Positional velocity of 77 mph.  Showed soft hands with quick, clean footwork.  Played through the ball with quick, clean exchanges.  Showed actions of a good fielder.




Jack Cecil, 1B, Atlee, 2017
Hits from a tall, slightly open stance.  Good rhythm in hands.  Smooth load back with a slight arm bar.  Abbreviated leg kick stride that gets on line.  Lower half collapses at times.  Maintains balance throughout swing.  Slightly long swing path.  Bat exit velocity of 80 mph.  Line drive swing path.  In the field threw from a loose ¾ arm slot.  Accurate throws.  Positional velocity of 68 mph.  Average hands with rigid footwork.  Clean fielding mechanics.  Quick, clean exchanges.





Camden Grimes, 3B, Hanover, 2018
Hit from an open, athletic stance.  Smooth load back with arm bar.  Aggressive leg kick stride that gets on line and is balanced.  Lower half explodes.  Elite bat speed with bat exit velocity of 94 mph.  Slightly long path to the ball, but explosive hands make up for it.  Aggressive approach to the round.  Level swing path with extension that stays through the zone.  Gap to gap hitter with pull power.  Max effort swing that gets the barrel through the zone exceptionally fast.  Threw from a loose, high ¾ arm slot.  Throws had some accuracy.  Positional velocity of 80 mph.  Soft hands with clean footwork that played through the ball.  Showed some range with glove.  Quick, clean exchanges.



Eric Picucci, 3B, Midlothian, 2017
Hit from an athletic stance that stood slightly open.  Smooth load back with toe to heel stride that gets on line.  Decent lower half drive that stays balanced.  Bat exit velocity of 82 mph.  Short, quick path that stays level through the zone.  Line drive swing.  Rhythm stiff at times.  Threw from a loose, high ¾ arm slot.  Throws had accuracy.  Positional velocity of 79 mph.  Soft hands with clean footwork.  At times feet slow.  Quick, clean exchanges.  Good angles to the ball.
