UNDER THE RADAR PROSPECTS …

James Scott, SS, Toledo St. John’s Jesuit

5-foot-8, 170-pound infield prospect with thick, solid build. Shows versatility to play several infield positions. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Top velocity of 83 mph across the infield with a quick transfer. Shows soft hands, good routes to the ball, and fluid footwork. At the plate, the right-handed hitter uses a slightly open stance. Uses a short stride with good use of his lower half. Solid line drive production with some good power for his size. Registered top exit velocity of 86 mph off the tee.

Christian Schramm, RHP/IF, Coldwater HS

6-foot-2, 205-pound prospect with strong, athletic build. Projects best as a pitcher. Shows above average arm speed through high ¾ arm slot. Quick tempo to his delivery. Fastball sits at 81-82 mph with some run to it. Velocity should take a jump this spring as he gets into throwing shape. Breaking ball shows slurvey type action at 66-68 mph with gradual 11/5 break. Shows good command of 71-72 mph changeup thrown near fastball arm speed with similar run to his fastball. In the field, he uses short arm action through a high ¾ arm slot. Projects best in the infield as a third baseman. Reached top velocity of 77 mph. Quick transfer, but needs to improve footwork and play through the ball. At the plate, he starts with a slightly open stance. Takes short stride. Shows quick bat speed (86 mph exit velocity off the tee). Definite power potential.

COMMITTED AFTER THE SHOWCASE …

Jake Trejo, RHP, Wauseon HS

6-foot, 180-pound right-handed pitcher with athletic build. Committed to University of South Carolina – Sumter shortly after the event. Uses Dick Mills momentum style mechanics. Shows quick arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Fastball sits 81-84 mph with some natural cut to it. Uses a hard 74-75 mph slider along with a 75-77 mph changeup.

BEST OF THE REST …

Aaron Hrabik, SS/2B, Xenia HS

5-foot-8, 155-pound infield prospect with athletic build. Ran a 7.58 60 on a slow track. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Show some softness in his hands and accepted the ball well. Good footwork with a quick exchange. Reached a top velocity of 79 mph and threw well from all angles. At the plate, he used a tall, narrow setup with a short stride. Shows a compact swing with ability to make consistent, solid contact from a shoulder trigger. Reached a top exit velocity of 79 mph off the tee.

Chaz Murray, OF, Pickerington North HS

5-foot-9, 165-pound outfielder with solid, athletic build. Ran a 7.67 on a slow track. Throws with short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Reached top velocity of 81 mph with accuracy. Uses quick transfer. Needs to continue to improve fluidity of his footwork. At the plate, the right-handed hitter starts with a slightly open stance. Initiates swing with slight leg kick trigger. Tendency to bar his arm in his load. Line drive type hitter that produces solid contact. Registered top exit velocity of 78 mph.

Dylan Rumbaugh, LHP, Defiance Tinora HS

5-foot-11, 180-pound southpaw with strong, athletic build. Throws with short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Shows some quickness in his arm speed. Delivery requires some effort. Fastball shows some run and sat at 79 mph and reached up to 82 mph. Showed flashes of a tight 69-70 mph slider. Chnageup is thrown near fastball arm speed with some sink to it at 72-74 mph.

Jake Young, OF, Centerville HS

5-foot-10, 150-pound outfield prospect with average, athletic build. Uses short arm action through over the top slot. Good accuracy and top velocity of 80 mph. At the plate, he starts with an open stance. Uses leg kick trigger. Decent use of lower half, but more incorporation will aid his power. Line drive type production. Registered a top exit velocity of 74 mph off the tee.

Matthew Clark, SS/RHP, Perkins HS

5-foot-8, 163-pound prospect. Projects as a third base type. Reached top velocity of 77 mph with long arm action through a ¾ arm slot. Accepts the ball well with some softness in his hands. Needs to continue improving footwork and lower half. At the plate, he starts with a narrow, open stance with high hands. Uses a short stride. Minimal upper half load. Shows pull tendencies in his swing. Takes slight uphill path to the ball. On the mound, the right-handed pitcher use a tall and fall type delivery. Shows above average arm speed through high ¾ arm slot. Fastball sits at 78-80 mph with straight action. Curveball shows 11/5 type break at 66-67 mph with good movement down in the zone. Changeup is thrown near fastball arm speed with some fade for strikes at 71-72 mph.

Nick Gatkins, OF/SS, North Royalton HS

6-foot-1, 175-pound prospect with strong, athletic build. From the outfield, he uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Reached up to 79 mph with some carry to his throws. Shows fluid footwork with a quick exchange. Shows good actions and plays through the ball. In the infield, he uses short arm action and a quick transfer. Reached up to 74 mph with his throws. More natural in the outfield. At the plate, he starts in a wide stance with a crouch. Uses a short stride. Shows partial use of his lower half. Power will increase with more use of his lower half. Registered top exit velocity of 79 mph.
