2015 Ohio MLB Draftees

In 2015 Ohio saw 28 former Ohio High School and current Ohio College prospects drafted in the 2015 First Year MLB Draft.

The head of the class is Andrew Benintendi (pictured right), a former Cincinnati Madeira Mustang and Arkansas Razorback, who saw his name called early in the 1st round (7th overall) by the Boston Red Sox. The outfielder was the highest-rated position player in Ohio's 2013 class and the 3rd-ranked position prospect overall for Prep Baseball Report. The smooth swinging lefty was a non-factor draft-wise coming into the season, but after a year where he earned Player of the Year honors in the SEC, Benintendi flew up the draft boards.

Out of the 28 draftees, there were three drafted straight out of high school, with DJ Wilson (Canton South) the highest drafted and the most likely to sign of the three (Ryan Feltner, Walsh Jesuit, 752 overall; Chandler Day, Watkins Memorial, 904 overall). Wilson is a Vanderbilt commit, but may never become a Commodore after being selected 113th overall by the Chicago Cubs. Wilson is a smooth swinging left-handed hitter with pop in his bat plus speed on the bases. Wilson is ranked as the top overall position player for Ohio in the 2015 class and ranked 37th overall by Prep Baseball Report.

Feltner (pictured right), an Ohio State commit, was named Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Ohio. The right-handed pitcher was a Super 60 participant in February and stood out at the event, sitting 89-90 while topping at 91 numerous times. Feltner will be a tough guy to sign for the Blue Jays, but a risk that will pay off for Toronto if they get his signature.

Day, a future Vanderbilt Commodore, is the No. 1 ranked player in Ohio's 2015 class. The 6-foot-3, flame-throwing righty sits 90-93 on the fastball with some arm-side run. Although, again, it seems as though Day will be tough to sign, it is nice to see the Cleveland Indians take a gamble on such a highly-touted prospect in the state of Ohio.

College-wise, The Ohio State University saw four players drafted with Bowling Green State University coming in second for the most selected with two.

Below we have a list of the other 24 prospects that were blessed to have one of their dreams come true, hearing their name called during the 2015 First Year MLB Draft.
