Section 5 Tournament Update

Class AA

Twelfth seeded Rush-Henrietta beat fifth seeded Webster Thomas, and 13th seed Spencerport for a shot at #1 Webster Schroeder on Tuesday at Sutherland High School.  Junior’s Mitch Hoffower and Ryan Champainge both pitched complete games to advance the Royal Comets.

Webster Schroeder with a first round bye, called upon senior Nate Chase against Penfield.  Chase was effective going the distance as the Warriors move on to face RH.  The Warriors improved to 19-2 on the season.

While RH looks to knock off the #1 seed, they are young.  Schroeder has an experience advantage that they will lean on.  We expect to see Chase on the mound again for Webster.

The McQuaid Knights, also with a first round bye, cruised past Gates-Chili 11-2.  Senior Henry Buholtz gave up just 5 hits in 6 innings.  McQuaid will face #3 Hitlon on Tuesday at Dwyer Stadium.  McQuaid moves to 18-3 overall.

Backed by a stellar performance from junior Johnny Chiappone who gave up 6 hits over 6 ⅔ innings, Hilton will see #2 McQuaid on Tuesday.  With the victory, Hilton moves to 16-5 on the season.

We expect to see Buholtz match up with Alex Hendry in this highly anticipated matchup.

Class A

After dominating the first game, #5 HFL won a nailbiter beating Sutherland 2-1.  With another blowout against Greece Arcadia, HFL will advance to face Newark at Canandaigua High School on Tuesday.

#2 Greece Athena blew past Brockport and Batavia this past week, scoring 16 runs each game, highlighted by a grand slam from junior Justin Bunting.  Athena improves to 14-8.  They’ll face #3 Brighton who beat Canandaigua 2-1 and Mendon 7-5.  Brighton moves to 17-5 on the season.
