Preseason Preview: Markesan

The Wisconsin high school season kicks off on March 29, the first day for regular season games. Most teams will begin practicing on March 21, getting their rosters set and finalizing their lineups. Over the next several weeks, leading up to opening day, we will be rolling out team previews of high school teams all across the state and across all classifications, eventually launching our Preseason Power 25.

We have been sending out our annual Preseason Questionnaire to coaches all across the state and as the responses flood in we will bring you a snapshot of what to expect along with top players and keys to success for that particular team.

Combined record of returning arms Cody Ryan and Kyle Krueger. Krueger went 9-1 with a 1.74 ERA and was named first team all conference. Ryan went 6-0 with a 2.69 ERA and was also named to first team all conference.

OUTLOOK
Markesan has won the conference the past two seasons and will have a good chance at a three peat in 2016, as they return three first team all conference players to a team that went 21-3. They bring back two pitchers who combined to go 15-1 in Kyle Krueger and Cody Ryan. The offense is paced by 6-foot-4, 220-pound first baseman Denton Plagenz who hit .434 last season and drove in 37 runs. The Hornets will look to make a deep run into the playoffs this season after being bounced in the Regional Championship last season.
