Prep Baseball Report

Top Uncommitted 2022 Prospects

PBR TX Scouting Staff

TEXAS - As we get thru the HS tournament season and head into district, it’s time to look back at some of the uncommitted 22’s that we have watched during tournament season. There is a good blend of arms and hitters on this list. Every year there are guys that take a big jump and see their recruitment take off.  Here are some prospects that have the potential to have that happen to them this year.

Uncommitted 2022's

Zac Colletti RHP / OF / Southlake Carroll, TX / 2022

While the top of the rotation gets all the love for the Dragons, Colletti opened my eyes on Friday.  He had a clean outing with his fastball sitting 85-87 while touching 88 a few times. He comes from an over the top slot, and his FB played up when in the top half of the strike zone. He threw a 78 mph changeup and a breaking ball that was in the 72-74 range. Colletti is uncommitted right now, he is going to be a steal for someone.

Chase McCall RHP / Flower Mound, TX / 2022

The Sr. RHP was a pleasant surprise, as I haven’t heard much about him. He sat 85-87 with some ASR and sink.  He flashed a breaking ball that he commanded well that he threw from the same slot.

Austin Rogers OF / RHP / Prosper, TX / 2022

After seeing the Sr. RHP twice, he impressed in both settings, the second time with even better stuff. His fastball was 84-86 T87 with some ASR. He showed a 74-75 mph CH that was his best secondary pitch and 72-74 mph breaking ball.  He has an up tempo delivery and attacks every hitter.  He is just another high quality arm for this Prosper Program.

Bradley Castillo C / Coppelll, TX / 2022

The Senior backstop has become one of the better defenders behind the plate in North Texas.  Savvy behind the plate, he makes his pitchers better.  Calls his on game and is consistently in the 2.0 range on his throwdowns.  At the plate, he shows some gap power and handles the bat well.  There isn’t a lot of swing and miss, and he can do a lot of thing to help his offense

William Boylan RHP / SS / Coppell, TX / 2022

The Sr. RHP threw a lot of big innings last year for the Cowboys during their playoff run, and is expected to be a big piece of what Coppell is doing here down the stretch. His FB ranges in the 84-88 that he pairs well with a true Curveball.  They both come out of the same slot and pair nicely together.  There is some projection left on his frame, and he may have another velo jump in college.

Joshua Ortiz RHP / SS / LD Bell, TX / 2022

We hadn't seen Ortiz play until the Spring, but after watching him throw the ball across the diamond, I was immediately intrigued.  Then he hopped on the mound for 1 inning and showed a lot of promise.  His fastball was 86-88 with a quick arm and plenty more left in the tank.  He also threw a curveball that was 74-76.  He is a good athlete, and the more innings on the mound he gets, I imagine he keeps getting better and better.

Dalton Carnes OF / OF / College Station , TX / 2022

Carnes had a strong showing at the North TX Upperclass Games this Summer. He started the day by running a  6.75 60 YD. To go along with his speed, he also showed off his arm by posting an outfield velocity of 86 mph. Carnes also recorded an exit velocity of 99.31 mph while taking his round of BP. He has fast hands with bat speeds up to 80mph, giving him some pull side pop. Our staff saw him earlier this year where he came up empty at the plate but still showed his athleticism and ability to patrol the OF.

Rashaad James 3B / Kinkaid, TX / 2022

Wyatt Wiatrek RHP / Sinton, TX / 2022

put together a solid performance for Sinton against a tough 6A lineup. Moved the FB in/out/up/down at 84-89 T90 (88 in the 7th). the CB showed much improved shape and command at 74-77.
