Central State 8

Jacksonville 7, Rochester 2 (8 innings)
Jacksonville (2-0; 1-0) scored five times in the top of the eighth to stun Rochester 7-2 on Tuesday. Floyd Lomolino hammered a two-run double with the bases juiced to lead the Crimson to victory. Tyler Reed (1-0) was magnificent out of the pen, firing four scoreless innings and striking out six to pick up the win.

Lincoln 14, Springfield Southeast 2 (5 innings)
Lincoln (1-0; 1-0) opened its Central State 8 Conference and 2013 play by romping past Springfield Southeast (1-1; 0-1) on Tuesday. Railsplitter starting and winning pitcher Ryan Sloan (1-0) fired a seven-hitter at the Spartans. Sloan also had two hits and three RBI. Tyler Horchem chipped in with three RBI and two runs scored.  

Taylorville 13, Springfield 3 (6 innings)
Taylorville (2-0; 1-0) scored in every inning and romped past Springfield 13-3 in six innings on Tuesday. The game was the Central State 8 Conference opener for both schools.The Tornado bats were led by Chase Finks who had three hits and a pair of RBI.  Springfield (1-1; 0-1) was led by junior Kovin Pritchard, who had a double and an RBI for the Senators.

Nonconference

Columbia 2, No. 28 O’Fallon 1
Columbia (3-0) senior Austin Floarke sent the Eagle contingent home happy, when his one-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh plated the game-winner. Floarke drove home the Eagle first run when he ripped an RBI single in the second inning. Eagle junior Josh Fleming (1-0) fired a five-hitter at O’ Fallon, allowing one run and striking out five.

O’Fallon (1-2) was led by Panther senior C Brendon Tindall, who doubled home the only Panther run in the top of the second. Junior Tyler Herbert (0-2) went the distance for the Panthers allowing two runs and 10 hits.

No. 32 Edwardsville 8, Greenville 0

No. 33 Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin 4, No. 5 Normal West 3
On a frigid afternoon in Springfield, No. 33 Sacred Heart-Griffin (2-0) slipped past No. 5 Normal West 4-3. Normal West (1-1) struck first in this huge nonconference affair scoring twice in the first inning. University of Illinois-bound Matt James hammered a two-run triple to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead.

The Cyclones answered with a pair of runs in the second on a two-run triple from junior Ryan Elvers. Junior Corey Mason gave the Cyclones the lead for good when he ripped a clutch two-out, two-run double in the fourth.

Four Wildcat miscues in the field made the four Cyclone runs unearned. Missouri State-bound LHP Alex Jefferson (0-1) deserved a better fate. The future Bear pitched 4 2/3 innings allowing no earned runs and five hits. Jefferson struck out 5. WIU-bound C Adam McGinnis (3-for-4, 2B, RBI) ripped an RBI double in the fifth to bring the ‘Cats to within a run.

Cyclone senior David Jacob improved to 2-0 on the season. Jacob allowed two runs and five hits in four innings of work. Jacob struck out four Wildcat batsmen.

Morton 1, No. 29 No. 29 Bloomington 0
Morton opened up its 2013 season in style with a thrilling 1-0 win over No. 29 Bloomington (2-2). Potter starting and winning pitcher Jordan Wanner (1-0) fired a one-hit shutout at the Purple Raiders in Bloomington. Wanner struck out an amazing 15 Raider batters. Purple Raider sophomore Deion Thompson singled to lead off the Bloomington first inning and Wanner fired seven no-hit innings after that to pick up the win.
        
Bloomington junior Nick Chapman (0-1) went the distance for the Purple Raiders allowing the lone run and six hits.

Still no games being played in the Chicago area - and won't in the near future.
