Unsigned Senior Games: Team Navy Corner Infield Analysis

The PBR Kentucky Unsigned Senior Games event took place at Northern Kentucky University on August 8 and provided close to 50 unsigned seniors the opportunity to showcase their abilities to the PBR Kentucky staff and several college coaches in attendance.

The following is a look at the Team Navy corner infielders who participated in the event.

Austin Madry, 3B, Lexington Catholic HS, 2016
6-foot-1, 185-pound right handed hitter hits from an open stance and squares up with a short stride, uses lower half well, quick hands generates above average bat speed, shows power to the gaps, 88 mph exit velocity off the tee (91 at previous event), ran 4.75 down the line, went 1-for-4 in game play with a single to LF. Shows soft hands defensively, short ¾ release, 79 mph velocity across the infield with accurate throws.

Sam Clinard, 1B/RHP, DuPont Manual HS, 2016
6-foot-2, 175-pound left handed hitter hits from an open stance and squares up with a long stride, has some power potential especially as he adds strength to frame, registered 82 mph exit velocity off the tee, ran 4.72 down the line, hit well in game play going 2-for-4 with doubles to RF and right-center with a pull approach. Shows good hands at first base, average footwork, most throws accurate with 76 mph velocity across the infield.

Matthew Miller, 3B, Paintsville HS, 2016
6-foot-4, 240-pound left-handed hitter hits from a balanced stance, leg kick trigger with a mid-length stride, level swing path and creates some bat speed with frame, had some early timing issues in BP but hit well in game play, 87 mph exit velocity off the tee, ran 4.52 down the line, went 2-for-4 with a triple to RF and single to CF in game play and also stole a base. Shows average hands defensively, accurate throws from a short 3/4 release, accurate throws with average arm strength, 75 mph velocity across the infield.

Dawson Hogan, 3B, Campbell County HS, 2016
5-foot-9, 170-pound right handed hitter hits from a slightly open stance with a short stride, shows some hand quickness and generates some lift with swing, shows flashes of gap power, ran a 4.85 down the line, went 1-for-4 in game play with a double to LF. Shows solid defensive ability at third base with soft hands and good lateral movement, good body control and ability to throw accurately on the move, accurate throws with high-3/4 release, 76 mph velocity across the infield is the best he has shown to date.

Ivan Villalba, 1B, Ballard HS, 2016
6-foot-2, 185-pound switch-hitter has a similar approach from both sides of the plate. Hits from a slightly open stance with a short stride, has an arm bar in load phase from both sides of the plate creating length in swing, shows occasional pull side power, showed ability to generate some bat speed in exit velocity testing, 87 mph from right side, 86 mph from left side, ran 4.87 down the line from the right side, went 0-for-3 from the left side and 0-for-1 from the right side in game play. Shows average hands and footwork defensively, most throws accurate with 73 mph velocity across the infield.
