DuPage Valley

Wheaton North (16-10; 9-4) salvaged a 9-1 victory over Naperville Central (16-10; 10-3) in its crucial three-game set with the Redhawks. Falcons senior Ed Norris (6-3) fired a five-hitter at NC on Friday. Northwestern-bound Falcon Jake Schreiber homered, doubled and drove in three Falcon runs.

Naperville North (15-11; 9-4) made it 10-straight as the Huskies beat West Aurora 7-0 behind a one-hit shutout from Huskie senior RHP Brock Borgeson (2-2).

Interstate 8 Crossovers

No.25 Lisle (27-5; 12-1 North) crushed Reed-Custer 11-1 in five innings behind Lion juniors Brian Czyl and Ryan Van Volkenberg. Czyl had three hits, including a pair of doubles and an RBI. Van Volkenberg went deep, singled and plated a pair for the I-8 North leaders.  

Herscher (24-6; 10-3 South) defeated Seneca 5-1 behind a four-hitter from Tiger junior Austin Mendell (5-1). Mendell struck out seven Fighting Irish hitters on Friday. Herscher will travel to Manteno (26-3; 10-2 South) for the first of a huge I-8 South two-game set on Monday. The PBR’s Drake Skleba will be in Manteno. First pitch: 4:30.

Jackie Robinson North

Lane Tech (14-10; 11-0) survived Von Steuben 1-0 in nine thrilling innings on Friday. Indian Cody Davis sent everyone at the corner of Addison and Western home happy when he singled in the game-winner for the JR-North leaders.

Metro Suburban

Glenbard South (17-8; 10-2) bombed Fenton 13-1 in five innings on Friday night. Raider Zach Bava hammered a grand slam and drove in five for the Raiders. Glenbard South holds a ½ game lead over Illiana Christian (18-7; 9-2) in the MSC race.

Mid-Suburban Crossovers

In a possible preview of May 17th’s MSL Championship Game, East leader Prospect (12-14; 9-3 East) blasted West leader Fremd 11-1, in five innings. Knight sophomore Jordan Fedro (3-3) fired a three-hitter at the Vikings with three strikeouts. 

Red-hot junior Dan Kavanaugh doubled with the sacks full for the Knights. Speaking of doubles, Illinois State-bound Jack Landwehr hit his 30th career double, singled and plated a pair of runs for the MSL East leaders. Landwehr’s double set another Prospect High school record. Earlier this season Jack set career marks in wins and strikeouts.

Hoffman Estates (11-14; 5-7 West) stunned MSL East co-leader Hersey 5-3 on Friday. The Hawks rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh to pull off the stunner. Hersey falls to (18-5; 8-4 East).

NIC-10

Make it 15 in a row for sizzling Rockford Boylan (19-7; 11-0).  The Titans defeated Freeport 7-3 behind a complete-game performance from Jake Sheley.  And red-hot Joe Kubera had three hits and three RBI for the NIC-10 leaders.

N. Illinois Big 12-East

Kaneland (17-8; 10-2) smashed Sycamore 10-0 behind six shutout innings from Knight junior Matt Limbrunner. Limbrunner allowed five hits and struck out six Spartans. Senior C Jordan Jones had two hits and drove home three for the NIB 12-East co-leaders.

Yorkville (16-9-1; 10-2) defeated DeKalb 6-3 to keep pace with Kaneland atop the NIB-12 East standings.

N. Illinois Big 12 - West

Ottawa (20-6; 9-2) and La Salle-Peru (19-6; 9-2) are all tied up after Ottawa’s 2-1 win over L-P on Friday night. (See Drake Skleba’s story)

Southwest Prairie

Plainfield Central (16-12; 7-8) hammered No. 3 Plainfield North 7-1 behind a five-hitter from senior RHP Mark DeYoung. Wildcat senior Eric Deloach had two hits and drove home three PC runs. Plainfield North falls (23-3; 13-2)

Look out, the Indians are back. Minooka (20-8; 12-3) pulled within one game of SWPC-top dog Plainfield North, with an 8-0 whitewash of Romeoville on Friday. Indian seniors T.J. Condon and Austin Polcyn went deep as the rampaging Indians rolled on. Minooka opens up a huge three-game set with Plainfield North beginning Tuesday in Plainfield.

Southwest Suburban Red

Andrew (19-6; 9-0) romped past Stagg 13-2 in five innings and pulled into a first-place tie with No. 13 Lincoln-Way North (25-3; 9-0) in the SWSC-Red.

T-Bolt senior Mark Kane hammered a big tree-run double and went deep to lead the Andrew assault. Senior Jake Rzeszutko hammered his eighth round-tripper of 2012.

The T-Bolts and Phoenix will begin a crucial two-game set at L-W North on Wednesday and at Andrew on Friday. The PBR has all the bases covered in this huge series.

Upstate 8 River

St. Charles East (15-7; 13-3) completed its sweep of defending River champ Streamwood, 6-4 in an 11 inning extravaganza.

Geneva (17-5; 10-5) blanked St. Charles North 2-0 behind Viking Tom Landi’s two-hitter. St. Charles North falls to (16-8; 10-4).

Upstate 8 Valley

South Elgin (16-4; 13-3) defeated Lake Park 4-0 behind a two-hit shutout from junior Chris Bingham (2-1). Bingham fanned seven Lancer Hitters. South Elgin will host Neuqua Valley (17-7; 11-3) in a big Valley twin-bill today at 10.

West Suburban Silver

York (17-9; 12-3) nipped Hinsdale Central 7-6 to complete the Dukes three-game sweep of the Red Devils. Duke junior River Pitlock drove home four runs. Red-hot senior Jake Rzeszutko had three more hits and senior Mark Trumball went deep for the WSC Silver-leaders.

Nonconference

Steven M. Bajenski Memorial Tournament QT. Final 1

No. 4 Providence (20-6) defeated New Trier 5-1 at North Park University on Friday night. Celtic junior RHP Yianni Pavlopoulos (3-1) went the distance against the Trevians. University of Notre Dame-bound Zak Kutsulis and Ball State-bound C Sam Tidaback went deep for the Catholic Blue co-leaders. No.1 Mount Carmel (24-2) heads to Tom Dedin Field for a big CCL-Blue battle with the Celtics today at 11.

New Trier (14-8) suffers its third consecutive loss.

Nonconference

No. 12 Oak Park (16-5-1) beat Loyola 7-1 behind a two-hit, three RBI night from sophomore Alex Rice.

O’Fallon/Triad Classic

No. 16 O’ Fallon (21-6) defeated Hillsboro 13-0 in the O’Fallon/Triad Tournament at Blazier Field on Friday night. Panther senior Ethan Wild doubled singled and had three RBI to lead the Panther attack. Senior Kyle Wilson (3-2) fired a one-hitter at Hillsboro.

Senior Cory Beyersdorfer and junior Tanner Hudson chipped in with a pair of RBI each.

Hazelwood Central (MO) 9 Fort Zumwalt South 5

At Troy-Triad

CBC (MO) 1 Timberland (MO) 0

Chaminade (MO) 6 No. 11 Troy-Triad 2 at Triad High School on Friday night. The Knights fall to 20-5.  

No. 19 Harrisburg (22-7-1) blasted Pinckneyville 8-0 behind junior SS Ryne Roper’s five-RBI day. Senior RHP Cam Cummins fired six-shutout innings to pick up the win on the mound. 

No. 24 Bloomington (20-5) beat Pekin 10-6 to win the Purple Raiders 20th contest of 2012. Bloomington has now won 20 games or more in seven consecutive seasons. Red-hot Raider, junior Brandon Edwards, had three more hits and drove home a pair. Senior Sam Parsons (1-0) picked up the win on the mound for the Big 12 co-leaders. 

Lockport (16-9) defeated the hosts Tigers from Edwardsville 4-2 in the Porters’ opening round game of the Tiger Classic played at Tom Pile Field in Edwardsville.

Porter junior right-hander Eric Duzan (4-1) allowed a pair of runs in his solid 5 2/3 innings of work on the mound. Junior RHP Connor Ryan fired 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief to nail down the save for the red-hot Porters.

Porter junior C Derek Bangert had two doubles and two singles in his day of perfection at the plate. Juniors Austin Mastela and Doug Matthews each had two RBI for LP.

Edwardsville falls to 19-7.

Illiana Christian (18-7) crushed Manteno 10-0 behind a one-hit shutout masterpiece from Viking junior Josh Van Beek (2-1). The Vikings were led by seniors, 1B Mark Vanderzee and 2B Mark Heldt, each who plated three runs for IC. Manteno falls to 26-3
