The Prep Baseball Report Mississippi scouting staff recently sat down with Clinton outfielder, Adam Moncure to discuss his recent commitment to Northwestern State. Below is a transcript of our question and answer session:

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process?
Moncure: I was confident that I would find a school that would give me the opportunity to showcase my abilities and my love for the game.

PBR: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?
Moncure: Not really, but I did want to stay within a reasonable driving distance, so that my parents could watch me play.

PBR: Where did the college you chose first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?
Moncure: The college I chose first saw me at State Games of Mississippi. A couple months after that, they came to a pro style workout at my high school in which I was able to showcase my talents. The recruiting coordinator and I were able to hit it off. He was able to describe how I would fit in the system and how I would contribute to what they where trying to build.

PBR: Who is the best player you have faced in your state, and why?
Moncure: I would say the best player I have faced was Reginald Grace from Madison Central because he challenges me and brings the best in my game.

PBR: At what point in your career did you realize you were an elite player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?
Moncure: I have always loved the game of baseball. After my sophomore year I decided to quit football and concentrate all of my attention to the game of baseball.

PBR: What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?
Moncure: Academics and atmosphere along with athletics were the areas that were most important to me. I was looking for the opportunity to play baseball at a school that would prepare me academically for life after baseball.

PBR: What is your best attribute as a baseball player and how does that transfer onto the field for your team?
Moncure: My best attribute as a player would be my knowledge of the game which allows me to assist in bringing out the best in my teammates.

PBR: What part of your game needs the biggest improvement, why, and what will you do to improve it?
Moncure: Base stealing is an area that I want to improve, because my sophomore year I was able to steal more bases than last year. To improve my base stealing I will concentrate on being more aggressive when on base.

PBR: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?
Moncure: Love the game of baseball and believe in yourself.

PBR: What do you do in the offseason to keep yourself in baseball shape and prepare for the upcoming season?
Moncure: Everyday whether it is in the gym or the cages I push myself to the next level.

PBR: What do you like most about the college you committed to and what were the key factors in making your decision?
Moncure: One thing I like about the college is the small town atmosphere and the opportunities to play top ranked talent.

PBR: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?
Moncure: Hinds, East Central, and South Alabama
