As we prepare for our 2014 high school preseason coverage, we are going to take a quick glance at teams from across the state.

OUTLOOK:

The Concord Minutemen and Head Coach Jim Treadway will look to make some noise in this year's 4A state tournament.  Concord finished with a 23-7 record in 2013 and return five positional starters along with four arms this spring.  The Minutemen are led by Senior SS Nick DeFreese, a 6-foot-1, 190 pound switch hitting SS.  As a Junior DeFreese hit .424 with 27 RBI and 6 SB.  The SS finished the season with a .943 fielding% and is a three year All Conference selection.  On the mound Treadway will look to RHP Stephen Pinarksi, a Manchester commit. Pinarski finished 2013 4-3 on the mound with a 1.42 ERA and 48 K's in 43 IP.  The 5-foot-11 senior will also be a key contributor offensively after hitting .417 last spring.  Fulfilling the catching duties is Junior Jake Vernon, a 6-foot-1, 187 pound catcher.  Senior Duncan Boone will be expected to contribute at the plate.  Last year as a Junior Boone hit .361 with 3 HR, 5 2B and 11 RBI. Junior Brenden Curry and Senior Brenden Kirkendall are both expected to play key roles this season. Curry hit .267 with 3 2B and 4 SB in 2013, while the 6-foot-8 Kirkendall went 2-0 on the mound with 0.44 ERA.
