The PBR Virginia/DC Western Review was held on Sunday, November 6th at Eastern Mennonite in Harrisonburg, Va. Players from around the area came to perform in front of the PBR scouting staff and college coaches. Today we give you the player analysis from the event.

Peter Benavides C Battlefield 2020
Compact, youthful frame with room to grow at 5-foot-9, 140-pounds. Hits from a square set up with slight double tap load to hitting position. Level swing path with some extension through contact. Shows some balance throughout. Solid foundation as he gets stronger. Sound actions in the infield, clean exchange, short arm action. Short arm action throwing from a high three-quarter arm slot. Throws have some run on them and are accurate to the bag with average carry. 2.33-239 pop. Ran a 7.65 60-yard dash.

Nicholas Davis RHP/SS Highland 2019
Athletic frame at 6-foot, 160-pounds. Ran a 7.64 60-yard dash. Hits from a balanced set up. Strides out to hitting position. Level swing path through contact with average bat speed. Shows some balance and gets his lower half to work. Exit velo of 76mph. active feet in the infield. Clean exchange with short arm action throwing from a high three-quarter slot. Works thru ball well. Sound actions in the outfield. Moves well. Up to 80 mph in the outfield, 78 in the infield...Longer arm action as a pitcher throwing from a high three-quarter slot. Nice temp in delivery. Could get more lower half involvement and drive. Lands square to the plate. Shows some arm speed.  Fastball is straight up to 78mph. Breaking ball has short break with 11/5 shape on the pitch at 68mph. Change shows slight fade on the pitch at 70mph.

Todd Dearborn 1B/OF Highland 2019
Tall projectable frame at 6-foot-3, 165-pounds. Ran a 7.18 60-yard dash. Hits from a wider, square set up at the plate. Short quick weight shift, pick up and put down of front foot to hitting position. Slightly uphill path in swing with length through contact. A bit pull happy, but shows promise to future power potential and has nice balance throughout.  Sound actions at first with clean hands and exchange. Gets rid of ball well to second on turns from left side. Needs to get more follow through in throws which could help increase his velo and keep throws down and in line. Positional velo high of 69 with exit velocity of 75.

Austin Gutierrez 3B/1B John Champe 2019
Strong projectable frame at 6-foot-1, 200-pounds. Did not run 60. Hits from an athletic set up. Quick load to hitting position. Level swing path with quick hands to the ball in and out of the zone. Gap-to-gap ability with power potential as he continues to develop. Shows strength with good lower half. Exit velocity of 88 mph. Sound actions in the infield. Moves around first base well with quick release and good footwork turning two. At third, shows sound actions with clean exchange to release with little extra movements. Infield velo of 76 mph.

Joey Handley RHP George C. Marshall 2019
Tall, projectable frame at 6-foot-5, 175-pounds. Longer, free arm action throwing from a high three-quarter slot. Falls down mound, could get more lower half usage in direction to plate. Gets very good finish with backside. Falls off slightly to the first base side. Quick arm speed while pitching with regular effort. Fastball has slight run on it up to 81 mph. Breaking ball has 11/5 almost 10/4 shape on it. Tight rotation and nice action on pitch. Change up is straight with slight fade. Very interesting prospect with more in tank.

Ryan Hersi RHP Colgan 2018
Lanky projectable frame at 6-foot-3, 160-pounds. Sound, clean arm action with fast arm speed through finish. Nice lower half involvement. Some head whip in finish. Nice tempo throughout. Pitches with some effort. Lands square to the plate. Fastball has slight sink of the pitch up to 86 mph. Throws 2-seam with more sink and run on it.  Breaking ball has sharper break with 11/5 action on it up to 69 mph. Change up is harder ranging from 75-81 mph. More in tank as he fills out frame and adds strength.

Kevin Navedo SS Harrisonburg 2017
Compact athletic frame at 5-foot-8, 162-pounds. Ran a 7.34 60-yard dash. Hits from a square set up. Solid uncommitted prospect in the 2017 class. Smooth quick load back to with medium stride to hitting position. Short swing path to the baseball with quick hands and quick bat speed. Stays inside the ball well in swing. Shows some extension through contact. Good feet in the infield with sound actions and clean exchange. Short quick arm action throwing from a three-quarter arm angle. Could feet more active thru fielding but still shows good footwork.

Jose Rocha SS Harrisonburg 2019
Compact frame at 5-foot-7, 135-pounds. Ran a 7.14 60-yard dash. Hits from an athletic set up at the plate. Short load and knee-in leg kick to hitting position. Short swing path that gets slightly uphill at times. Gets some lower half involvement and shows some balance with room for better as he gets stronger. Quick hands with a middle approach. Active feet in the infield with sound actions. Clean transfer throwing from a three-quarter arm slot and quick catch to release. Infield velo of 80 mph with exit velo of 80 mph.

Jake Ruge SS Wahington-Lee 2018
Athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 155-pounds. Ran a 7.28 60-yard dash. Hits from a taller set up. Very short and quick load to hitting position. Longer, flat path to the ball with quick hands. Slap style approach at the plate. Spread ball around field well. Gets some lower half involvement. Sound action in the infield. Works thru the ball well with clean exchange and release with no wasted movement. Throws from high three-quarter slot. Infield velo of 73mph and exit velo of 77mph.

Grayson Sims C North Stafford 2018
Solid frame at 5-foot-9, 180-pounds. 7.65 60-yard dash. Hits from taller, slightly open set up. Smooth load to hitting position. Direct, slightly uphill swing path at the plate that wants to elevate the baseball. Shows quick hands and good bat speed. Gets on back foot a bit through swing and shows some power potential to pull side. Sound actions in the infield. Clean exchange and throw. Little higher set up with runners on. Clean exchange with quick release. Throws had carry on them and pop time got as low as 2.03…Shorter quick arm action throwing from an almost over the top arm slot. Gets some lower half and could get more involvement. Quick pace throughout delivery. Fastball has slight cut on the pitch up to 81 mph. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape on the pitch and has some 12/6 at times. Gradual break on the pitch at 68 mph. Change is straight with slight sink on the pitch at 76 mph.

Owen Stewart OF Harrisonburg 2019
Compact frame at 5-foot-4, 135-pounds. Ran a 7.01 60-yard dash. Hits from a square set up at the plate. Short slight double tap load to hitting position. Level bat path, spray type hitter around the diamond. Quick hands, nice rhythm, shows balance. As he gets stronger should continue to get better. Active feet with sound actions in the outfield. Works thru ball well, could gain a bit more momentum, sound arm action throwing from a high three-quarter arm slot.

Cade Templeton LHP Harrisonburg 2017
Compact frame at 5-foot-7, 155-pounds. Loose arm actions throwing from a high three-quarter arm slot. Works down the mound well with lower half. Gets some back side drive through with a slight finish to third base side. Nice pace throughout delivery. Fastball has slight run on the pitch up to 79 mph. Breaking ball has later 1/7movment on the pitch at 68 mph. Good pitch shows some swing and miss potential. Changeup has slight fade to the pitch at 75 mph.
